I just bought a Ruger SP101 357cal. Its really a nice sized gun for me and its lots of fun to shoot, Most of my handguns are semi auto’s
this is the first center fire hand gun D/A that I’ve had in a long time, i’m liking the double action except for the long trigger pull, hope the more that I shoot it I will be able to control it.

Hey Carver, I've been shooting the SP 101 357 with a 4" barrel for some time. I love it.

I did do the wolf spring job on mine and it helped make it much smoother.

Keep on trying new ideas, it will pay off.

My other 357 is a Big Boy Steel Carbine. Awesome rifle.

congrats on the new SP 357 .... our sons use GP's, both are excellent revolvers

I have that gun in .327 Federal Mag with 4.2” barrel, it is my daily carry gun. You can make the action much nicer with lighter springs, it is a quick and simple job. If you or a smith want to really slick it up, diassemble the action, polish the moving bits and add shims. Everything you need to know or buy is on this page....

You can get used to a factory trigger, but you will never be very good with it. A well tuned Ruger DA trigger is a delight.

The SP 101 is a GREAT gun. I am currently looking for one with a 3" barrel and adjustable sights and they are hard to find.
I passed on one a couple years ago and wish I hadn't.

Really happy with the way it shoots and am thinking about trying the lighter spring, but for now punching holes in the paper and having a good time. Next will have to get some reloading dies to cut some of the expense .

I got the 4.2 inch barrel as I will use it more for target practice and carrying when I,m working on the place coyotes etc as I raise sheep and they seem to think it’s their dinner.

Excellent choice. I've only one semi, and all the rest are wheelguns. Ruger makes very sturdy ones.

I've a GP 100 4.2" barrel, made in 1996, that I picked up last year. It lives up to that "built like a tank" rep. My Henry Big Boy Steel (my 2019 gun; I buy one per year) will be in .357 to go along with the Ruger. Both guns will go back in the woods with me. I often do work with the GP on my hip in a full-flap holster from Simply Rugged.

Your trigger will get lighter with use, though I imagine it will still have a long pull. I found that my GP's lightened considerably after 200 rounds and is also much smoother. Seems to be be common with their guns.

Ruger pistols including a 4" SS GP 100 that had a fantastic trigger. I bought it used so it could have been worked on. I sold it but only because I bought a pair of 'vintage' Smith & Wessoms I had really been wanting and I try to maintain a 'one out for one in' - in this case it was 'two
In' but nevertheless the GP is an excellent gun and I highly recommend one to anybody who
Is considering a revolver.

I spent several months debating rather to buy a GP or a SP .357. For my purposes, I decided to purchase the GP. I believe the SP is a better trail gun, but I have a Glock-20 (10mm) Gen 2 that I have carried for both work and play in the brush for years. The GP is a pleasure to shoot and I really enjoy my range time with it.
