Based on its S/N and info from the S&W forum (or one of them), this piece is circa 1978/1979, making it right at 40 years old. It came with the original grips, which were a bit worn, but still nice, just way too small, so I put on these Hogues, which don't fit exactly, but I'm amazed that Hogue can put out one set of grips like this that will fit as many Smiths as it does.

Gave it a quick bath and some Flitzing, and it looks pretty clean to my untrained eye. Single action is VERY light, and even the DA is okay; long, but not too stiff or gritty, if that makes sense.

Off to the range soon to see how she does!

Hey, good for you. That's a great vintage 38 Smith, as good as it gets in a 38 revolver. Would have grabbed it, myself, if I saw it. Can't wait to hear how it shoots for you.

Sharp-looking wheel gun, and great find....congrats! Not easy to tell it's four decades old; looks much newer.

Your grip in the photo looks quite similar to the wood grips on current Ruger GP100 Match Champion revolvers. I've handled that grip, and it really has a nice feel to it, and very solid in hand.

Yep - good looking 67 - I sometimes wish my 66 was a dash - 1 and had the red inset front sight but such is life - and good deals!
Get it out and light it up!

Just so happens I saw the GP offered on Grab a Gun. Good call on the similarity of the grips, save for the finger grooves, which I prefer in a revolver, for whatever reason (don't ask me why, it just is).

Tried to copy the pic, but no luck. Like the checkering!

What made you decide to sell it?

I did the same "oops" not too long ago when I posted some ammo for sale. Just never "saw" the regulation. Lots of details out and about our Forum, and really easy to miss something. Just ended up a little when I got deleted! :*)

I guess it's a twisted version of "Third Time's a Charm," Ed, at least in part. This was my 3rd revolver and I've never been all that great a shot with any of them. And I don't seem to have the inclination or time to get good at it.

Secondly, and just as important, is that I'm still lusting after the CCH 30-30, while trying to exercise the discipline of the "zero sum game" rule of firearms ownership these days.

Meaning that, "If a new one comes in, an old one needs to go out." Putting it in business terms, the Model 67 has the least seniority, doesn't get along all that well with the boss and is, therefore, the unfortunate victim of this reorganization (of the gun safe).

Simple as that!

Sorry to hear the revolver didn't work out for you. I do understand, though. Revolvers are like any other type of firearm in that you need to work with them to develop any degree of skill shooting them. When time and funds are limited, makes sense to stick with guns that are a priority for you.

All true and accurate observations, NCG. Most firearms I've had great luck with and been able to shoot well from the get-go. For whatever reason, revolvers don't seem to be in that category. And, right or wrong, I'm of the mind that "life is too short" to just feed it ammo whilst trying to get better, when it didn't work with the first two wheelguns I owned. It's now more mental than physical, I guess!

A wheelgun buddy of mine shot it a few weeks ago and it was lights out, so I know it's me, not the gun.

Anyway, I'm comfortable that it will find a nice, appreciative home in the near future.

A vintage Smith like that should be easy to move. Best of luck on finding what you need.

ESquared, I am assuming you are happy with either SA or DA? Curious, do you fair better with a pistol? Or, are you more of a rifle man?
