We stopped at a lgs here in TX and I saw an unfired TC NIB for under $500. Don’t know if that was a good price but not being a TX resident I couldn’t buy it. It would be possible to have it sent home to an FFL dealer but that would add shipping and $100 for the transfer and sales tax again.

That's a reasonable price. An good condition Contender rig - frame and barrel - usually runs about $450, depending on the specific barrel. Contenders are getting a bit hard to find, now, as are any specialty pistols. Their forte has always been hunting and silhouette, which account for a low percentage of handgun sales, these days. If you ever do find one you want to buy, you know who to ask if you have questions.
