Anyone own one of these? The color case hardening looks nice and what's not to like about a single action revolver. Have been looking at these lately and would like some feedback as to the quality of the gun and how they hold up. I will be shooting 38 specials only as I have no intention of beating myself or the gun to death with .357's. Looks like they would be pretty easy to work on.

Apparently Taylor will also tune them for $125 but I'm thinking I can save myself quite a bit by doing the work myself.

Says they have enhanced sights? I'm thinking the enhanced part comes from the ability to see the trench sight easier due to the lower hammer profile?

I own a Uberti Stallion 22 it is beautiful and solid as a rock. I saw it in the case at a gun shop and had no intention of buying a gun at the time. I made the mistake of asking to handle it. And that was it, I couldn’t leave the shop without it.

I'd rate the Uberti as the best of the Italian single actions. Have several friends in cowboy shooting that swear by them. Might be adding a Cimarron Evil Roy or the Taylor equivalent 357 to the collection at some point, but the standard Uberti 357 I've been eyeing at a local dealer's shelf was very good in both the trigger and the action. Don't think it would really need ANY additional work unless you really wanted that competition action.

I do have a Cimarron/Pietta Frontier 357 Colt clone and is surprisingly good. Really surprised me. Was not expecting this kind of quality and performance for what I paid for it. Trigger and action, both, are way better than any Ruger SA I've had out of the box and it easily outshoot my Ruger Vaquero, back when I was still shooting Rugers. Pietta has made a lot of quality upgrades to their line these last several years.


Those better sights are a squared off notch rear sight instead of the traditional shallow U sharped gutter. Makes for a much easier to see sight. Well worth getting if you plan to do an accuracy work.

I bought an Evil Roy for a friend of mine in 45 colt. It was a very nice pistol and I will second the opinion on the Uberti guns. They are top notch. I have owned several of there leverguns and I just bought another one in 357 with beautiful color case in an 1873. You wont be sorry if you get one. Al

What do you guys/gals think would be the better barrel length for the birdshead cattleman, the 3.5 inch or 4.75 inch for a range toy and maybe occasional carry?

I would do the 4.75 for the longer sight radius and range use. From your question it sounds like the range toy would be more than a carry gun. I think your accuracy would be better also out of the longer barrel. Just my .02 worth.

I have a Taylors/Uberti SmokeWagon 5.5" in which I have (so far) fired more than 1000 357s. It's a fun gun to shoot. At the range, I alternate five shots each from my Henry BBB and the revolver, shooting 100 rounds per visit. I reload with mid-range charges to accommodate both guns.

FYI, Taylors is a great company to deal with.

The fit & finish on my Cimarron/Uberti revolver is very, very top quality. Walnut grip is gorgeous, color case frame very nice, and seems to be quite accurate. Mine has the V notch in the hammer that lines up with the front sight on the 8" barrel. Action is smooth. I would not hesitate to buy another Uberti, rifle or handgun. Very high quality.

As for the barrel length, assuming the balance would be to buy ling with that birdshead grip, I would also opt for the longer barrel. That 4.5" neighborhood on a single action is a nice compromise between carry and ease of shooting. With my Pietta, pictured in my above post with its 4.5" barrel, I am lightning fast on the draw with it. Can't imagine a shorter barrel being significantly faster.

Couple more pics, tried to get up close on the fit & finish. Great guns for sure. 4.5" is probably good for carry unless you are walking the streets of Tombstone, then the 8" barrel is right at home.

Uberti does those reproductions right. That is truly a beautiful gun, RR, as I've mentioned so many times.
