My shooting buddy woke me up last week with an early morning email, and a link to a Gunbroker listing, and said, "You should buy this gun." So I did, and went back to sleep. It's here today, a K-38 Masterpiece, born in 1959. Doesn't look like it was ever shot much, but somewhere along the way it got some moisture damage, possibly from being stored in a holster. Except for that, it's pretty nice. Hope it shoots as good as it looks:

Nice find. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the way it shoots. Doesn't get much better in a 38 than this one.

NCG, if I can't shoot straight with it, I will have to get really creative with my excuses. Humidity? Atmospheric pressure? Guy next to me with obnoxious muzzle brake?

My friend who coerced me into buying the gun regularly makes some astoundingly good shots with his 14-3. He shoots EVERY gun well, but he is particularly good with that one. They say it's a poor workman who blames his tools, but I don't know. It can't hurt to have good ones.

It can only help to have good ones, that's for sure. New gun, though, so take your time and get know it a bit, before you make any conclusions. Probably won't take long with this one, however, to show its stuff.

Went to the range today and worked on adjusting the sights. Is still shooting a bit low and to the right, but the trigger is good, and it shoots groups. I shot a few 5 shot groups at about 7 yards. Here are a couple:

I have a LOT of practicing to do. When my friend shoots those close range targets, all five of his shots go in the same hole. I have a ways to go yet. Will never get even close to what he can do, though.

I shot a Model 14 in competition at the local level for several years. I sold it to have the Gunsmith Build my PPC gun. I sure wish I had kept it, it was a tack driver. But... to compete at State level in PPC you had to really have a heavy barrel custom gun with three or four position rear sight.

Took it to the range today again, and got the sights set for 25 yards. I'm going to have to load a LOT of .38 special ammo to feed this gun.
