Probably legal/illegal in certain states, just like other "specialty" firearms. I do like your category description.

I've watched a fellow at the Lake City Range shoot a S&W .50 cal. revolver. This Rossi s/g pistol sure looks like it has a lot meaner recoil. Which one do you think takes the recoil blue ribbon?

That looked like a 1 oz slug with a 36 gm load. It would be bad enough in a full size shotgun, but in a handgun it's just pure madness.

Too expensive for a paperweight, but that would be it's best use.

it might also serve as a shiny rock to throw at a target .... it would be pretty easy to find so as to pick it up and throw it again

I'm no legal expert, but I suspect that to own one in the U.S. would require a stamp from the BATF if the gun has a smooth bore. The way revolvers and TC pistols get around the legality of shooting 410 shells is that they have rifling in the bore and can also shoot standard pistol rounds and are thus not considered shotguns.

Have shot the 460 S&W X frame revolvers and they are actually not at all bad. The X frames all come with a compensator and have enough weight to make recoil manageable. It was the horrid blast and concussion that wore me out after 20 shots, not the recoil.

Forum friends, though, who shoot the 460 and 500 in non-ported, non-compensated TC Encores barrels report that recoil is truly vicious, enough to shear bolts that hold the forearm on the gun. Only way I would ever shoot a 460, 500 or that 12 gauge hand cannon is with porting, brake or comp.

I shot a friend's stock 460 or 500. I can't remember which. It had a 6 inch or so barrel and six of us shot it. Everyone else shot it single action. I shot it double action. It was a lot more than my .44 magnums, but not too bad.

I don't see why anyone would want to fire a small shotgun like that. I did have a friend who guarded cash payroll with an Ithaca Auto & Burglar. He said the company he worked for had two with holsters. No one ever robbed the payroll either.

In Canada it would fall under restricted or perhaps prohibited classification. You can own restricted, that's what my revolver is.
