Okay, y'all. I need someone to change my Gunbroker password and then tear it up and throw it away. I placed a "test bid" on a Smith and Wesson Model 10-5, and went to sleep. As you might expect, when I woke up the next next morning I discovered that I had won the gun.

This is at least the third time I have "accidentally" bought a gun on Gunbroker. Hrmph.

So, while I wait for it to get here, I've been busy at the reloading bench turning out .38 specials to shoot in it. Looks, at least from the pictures in the listing, to be a nice one, and the price was reasonable.

As we all know, accidents happen.

Can we see what you accidentally bought? What were you hoping the test bid would accomplish?

As for "test bids?" I learned about those back when I used to buy and sell cameras and lenses on eBay (where I occasionally would "accidentally" buy a camera or a lens). With online auction sites, the winning bid that shows on a listing is not necessarily the bidder's highest bid. It may be, but there's no way to tell, other than to place a slightly higher bid on the item. Which is risky, because you sometimes end up buying the item when all you really were looking to do is to see how serious the other bidders were.

Yeah, I know. It's silly.

So it turns out you were more serious? I guess you were more curious than anything....

Oh, and another thing. The Laws of Online Auctions include the following:

1. If you bid on something that you really want, someone else will always submit a higher bid.

2. Conversely, if you bid on something you don't want all that badly, no one ever outbids you.

I know a woman who accidentally bought a car for her husband the same way. Her husband had been looking for one and she was showing her daughter how online bidding worked.
It turned out to be exactly what he wanted and a great price.

Lol. A friend of mine once took her husband's car to the dealer for an oil change. While she was waiting, she wandered into the showroom where a nice salesman sold her a brand new car. She traded in her husband's car and brought the new one home. "Honey, I'm home! Guess what?"
