I've been bitten by this same bug several times over the last couple years without succumbing. I've been putting aside some money for a little while for an upcoming family need. I found out this week, I probably will get out cheaper than I planned for, and should have plenty to pick this up.

I was at the LGS/range today and looked at a used Springfield Range Officer. It looks virtually unused. It's the full sized model with adjustable sights and a very nice trigger with overtravel adjustment. Price is attractive, but not borrow a couple hundred from my buddy to grab it now.

The only down side to it is the bump on the beavertail grip safety. Clovispup didn't like the feel of it. I noticed it, but wasn't terribly put off. I'm pretty sure I can get a replacement without the bump. Don't know how well a fit it is, and whether I will lose any functions with it.

I rented another Springfield while I was there. It was the shorter barrel model with fixed sights and a so-so trigger. I still managed to put 5 shots in one ragged hole and a close flyer at 7 yds.

If it will tolerate cast lead, I can load for this cheaper than I do for my Henry .357. It hurts to pay $20 for a box of ammo. I see plenty of .45 brass on the floor at the range.

I really hate to spend the money right now. I did a quick check the other day when the info came in, and I should have enough to cover upcoming bills and the 1911 with funds I have on hand now. I could probably make up the difference even if I am wrong.

I would also hate to miss a deal on a nearly new used 1911. My buddy and I are going to do some looking around tomorrow.

I have a Savage bolt action that sees little to no range time these days. I'm tempted to see what they would give me on trade in with it.

I have talked myself out of a 1911 two or three times in the last couple years.

1911's are addicting. Dont ask me how I know.

Have had a couple Range Officer 1911s in 45 and both were every bit as accurate as some of my much higher priced 1911s. If you're looking for a range gun, can't beat them for the money. Still have an RO in 9mm and it's my husbands favorite.

1911s are not as addictive for me as my single actions, but pretty close.

How do you know they are addictive?

I'm down to 4 now. I have the SARO, which is my favorite and very accurate, the SA EMP 9mm, excellent for CC, 40yrs old Colt series 70 Government, the tightest Colts made IMO all the new ones rattle like a babies rattle if you hold it to your side and shake it, even the Gold Cups to my shocking experience, my series 70 doesn't do that. My last and best fit and tightest 1911 I have ever held/owned is my Les Baer PII but it's not the most accurate. My SARO will keep it in check, if I knew this in the beginning I would have never bought it but it is a fine piece of iron for sure.

I have 5 of them one is a 10mm. I own 2 Sigs a Kimber Ruger and the 10 mm is a Rock Island arms. The only other semi autos I can even shoot worth a darn are CZ 75b. So the 1911's are my go to when the semi auto bug hits. Al

I have a Springfield Armory Compact Range Officer that is less than a year old. I now want something like the EMP with a SS slide and the rosewood grips on the regular flat black (parkerized) finish. Love the look of that.

Out of curiosity, what is the asking price of the used one? I've never sold one of my pistols as they are all less than a year old. But I have been toying with the idea of possibly selling mine for something different. It's had less than 100 rounds through it and is in perfect condition.

Out of curiosity, what is the asking price of the used one? I've never sold one of my pistols as they are all less than a year old. But I have been toying with the idea of possibly selling mine for something different. It's had less than 100 rounds through it and is in perfect condition.

They are asking $659. They usually have some wiggle room. I'm tempted to offer them $600.

I ended up having to spend a little more than planned the last couple days. Makes me a little more nervous.

In other news, I went by the LGS to take a second look.

It's been sold.

Bummer, now you gotta sing the "I lost out on a 1911 blues".

Didn't the Allman Brothers have something to say about that?

I'll talk you out of it. Save up some more money and buy a Les Baer. My Baer's are the only 1911's I felt compelled to keep.

If that's the case that's kind of nice to know. At least they aren't depreciating very much.
