I went to the FFL this evening to pick up the 1957 Ruger Single-Six I accidentally bought on Gunbroker* and was very pleasantly surprised. For a few minutes, at least. The friendly folks from our government were being "pokie" with background checks tonight, and I left without my gun. Will have to go back for it tomorrow.

Still, the good news is that the thing is in remarkably minty condition for a gun that's older than me. My buyer's remorse is quickly disappearing. Firearms makers back then were able to do some amazing things with bluing. The bluing on the frame has even started to turn plum colored, which I'm told is desirable for old Ruger revolvers. Can't wait to get it and get down to the range with it.

*I swear, the Devil made me push the "bid" button. I was powerless to stop my finger from bidding.

I believe North Country Gal told us those early single sixes were .22 lr only in another thread.

I was there at 5 PM, and needed to get home for dinner. The FFL called me back later, but they closed at 6. Background checks were going slow, and it took almost an hour for our government to tell me I could exercise my rights.

Right on the extra mag capability. That bore size is 22 LR, only. You could actually shoot 22 mags thought it, but those plated 22 mag bullets are oversize for that bore (22 LR bullets are not plated) and would run your pressures too high to be safe. It's why 22 LR/22 mag convertibles in any brand of gun use the larger 22 mag bore size. Just not worth risking it. Besides, there are a gazillion used Single Sixes with the mag bore size out there, if you want to shoot 22 mags in a Single Six. To be honest, even in my convertible Single Sixes, I seldom bother to shoot 22 mags, anyway.

When I bought my Heritage Rough Rider, I didn't even bother with the Mag Cylinder.

Love shooting 22LR's.

Hmmm... these pics don't do justice to it. It's too purty to shoot. Except for a tiny bit of bluing worn off the left side of the muzzle, and a little black missing from the eagle on one of the grip panels, it's almost 100%.
