Had a guy contact me about a rifle I had for sale or trade. Wondered if I was interested in a...P38..ac44...I said keep talking. Long story short, I brought it home tonight. Walther manufacture, May 1944, matching serial #s, matching holster and extra mag with the correct factory stamp. All items have the Wehrmacht/Nazi proof stamps. All are in incredible condition. Wow, MapleHill! The fellow that let those go sure didn't pay much attention to the history it represented.
And you're stating they "All are in incredible condition" is the sweet part of the deal....congrats!

You might find this forum interesting as you enjoy your new acquisition. It is dedicated to discussions of that firearm:

These are the sort of stories that you hear about at the bar. You normally end up thinking "Yeah, right".

To find a good used P38 is one thing, but to find one with that sort of history must be a chance in a million. When it really happens, you think ..... "Why didn't it happen to me!" ;)

Nice find, my partner Mike has one that we shoot often. Good shooter, made 1938 w/holster and Nazi marks. When I can I'll post a pic. Saw a few this year at a couple of shows and only had 1 mark on slide and not the two other marks, no holster and asking $1500.00!!!

Well, after extensive research I have found out that the holster is actually a very rare Luger pigskin holster. I have searched out the correct holster to match my pistol and hope to make a deal soon. I had originally planned to just sell the pistol, but it is pretty cool part of history and I am a frequent visitor to the P38 and Walther forums. Looking at PPs and PPKs now...sheesh, just what I need, another firearm to obsess over!

They really have a wonderful balance and I love shooting them. Can't wait for a range report.

Not sure if I'll take it to the range Sir Henry. This pistol is all original, serial number matching. IF something should break and I have to replace a part then it goes from a $1200-$1500 collector to a $600 shooter...not sure I wanna take that chance.
