Heritage Rough Rider

I bought one today. SA 6 with 6.5" barrel. Don't have a picture yet. But here is the link to it on the Heritage website.

I paid exactly 1/2 the MSRP listed on their website.
I never intended to buy another gun. I was done. But too much *evil* influence here. Maybe I can really be done after this one.
Out of Box first impression...
It is a very nice looking pistol.
I'm not bothered by the hammer block safety knob.
In 1/2 cock, rotating the cylinder is a series of very heavy thunks, not a nice series of ratcheting soft clicks.
The grip fit to my hand is not at all a comfortable comfy fit. But I do like the stars on it.
The trigger has a crisp immediate break, no uptake slop.
It's heavy. A little over 2 lbs. No reason to think it, but I thought it would be much lighter being a .22.
Maybe tomorrow or this weekend I shoot it.

I can't tell ya how many times I've heard such statements.
Now, they are decent revolvers for what they are, I have two. An older 6.5" like the one you have and the smaller 3.5" version with the birds head grips that I posted a pic. of in Gene's thread the other day. I've had the longer barreled one a good while and have put many a round through it.

My daughter bought one years ago, probably ten years ago. She has used it around the farm for varmints in the coop, hanging around the boarding barn, and to plink. Has had no complaints. Her's is a 5-1/2" barrel.

Congrats on the new plinker. Never say never right? I’m of the same opinion as you particularly as it’s looking like we will be required to have a purchase permit going forward.

Thanks. Get while I can cause Oregon might cut me off. If the purchase permit thing goes through here, the fees will double the cost of many firearms. That will force me to be done. Yesterday's purchase was a cake walk. Sure I had to wait a few minutes in line behind other purchasers, but with my CCL the background check was instant approval, and I was out the door.

That's the barrel length I would have bought, but they longer offer it. It was either 4.75 or 6.5 for me.

Ya, the itch has been scratched, so done for now. By the time itch returns, though, Oregon might have cut me off for good.
"decent revolvers for what they are"... I can see that. For $120+ I can't expect it to be at the same level as a Uberti, Pieta or Cimarron. But, side by side, it also makes me think those are grossly overpriced. The Rough Rider is just good enough to be able to draw that conclusion.

I keep saying I'm done buying guns... But Miss T and I drove to Northern Oklahoma a couple weeks ago and bought another safe. My twenty year old safe is full, and the stop gap cheapo is as well. The new one is due in next week. Sadly, there will be room for more guns, guess I will just have to fill those bucket list slots, if the guns on the list pop up.

Both mine are full as well. No more slots for rifles. No more slots for pistols. New ones get laid on the floor of the safe. My cheapo is full of ammo.

I've had a 6.5 for years. Mine came with nice wood grips. It's a fun gun. Totally satisfied with it.

First shots at 4 targets. CCI MiniMag and some CCI Shorts. About 15-20 ft away. Two handed hold. Elbows on the steering wheel of the Gator. Maybe not the best shooting posture. Also, some practice needed to figure out the sweet spot alignment of the sights. Shakey doesn't help either.

I see some improvement progressing from the first 2 targets to the last 2. I'd say that's not bad at all considering the absence of a rear sight. Somewhat similar to a shotgun with just the bead - takes some getting used to.

I agree with Gunny about the improvement and about it taking awhile to find that sweet spot with these revolvers. I've read about shooters slightly bending the front sight to fine tune their guns. I didn't do that. But, pretty much every time I shoot an SAA revolver, I need a minute to re-acquaint myself with it in order to recall both my muscle and mental memory for getting on it target. Age probably has something to do with that.

As NCG shared with us a few months ago shooting single action revolvers is more difficult than doubles due to a longer hammer drop. Mags that’s pretty good shooting using a round able to turn rest.

Thanks. Using the steering wheel as a rest was a quick option so I could get few shots off before dinner. Most of the day had been yard work and I was pretty tuckered. The steering wheel helped steady some of the tired jittering.

Ya, I'm not going to bend the sight. When I can get a shot off without shaking the notch to front sight seems to be pretty well centered left/right. It's my trigger squeeze that throws the bullets. As noted before the trigger break is crisp without any sponginess takeup, but the trigger break is a hard pull (6 lbs?). I have a muzzle mountable laser sight, that I'll mount and see if I can get a better idea of where to line up the notch and front sight.

Had that problem with my Glock. The Long pull was causing me to turn my grip to the left. Once I figured that out I was able to fix. Then I sold the pistol.

Here's mine –– I bought it from a local shop maybe 5 years ago, I think just because I liked the wood and the price was almost free. I've never regretted the purchase. My girlfriend loves to shoot it and I take it and a Single-Six out with my daughter and her boyfriend and let them alternate with them. They have a blast.

Oh, ya forgot about an actual picture. So here it is with the laser sight. When the front sight tip is aligned with the rear site notch top, the laser dot POA sits right on top of the front sight. So the sights are at least laser straight.
