Another fine OM Single Six

As some of you know, I have a nice collection of Ruger Single Sixes, but it's a shooter's collection, meaning they all get shot so that I can enjoy them to their fullest. I found this one just a few weeks, ago.

What you see in the pic above is a 1959 Old Model Single Six with a 4 5/8" barrel with the original 22 LR bore size and the very first edition Single Six grip frame and grips. This one stopped me in my tracks when I saw it in the display case because it's actually a fairly scarce Single Six.

What makes it scarce is that 1959 was the first year for that barrel length and in the following year, Ruger changed all Single Sixes to the magnum bore size for the sake of adding an extra 22 mag cylinder. Two years after that, Ruger changed the grip frame to a slightly different frame using different grips. All in all, a pretty rare combination of features.

This one really is in fine condition, too. Action is tight and the trigger is crisp and light. Took it out today and, as expected, it did not disappoint. The fixed sights shoot exactly to point of aim at that distance. Just held the front sight in the middle of the 3" bull and the rest was easy.

Congratulations Ma'am. You might remember I was lucky enough to find one, a '58 that needed some very minor repair. I never got around to shooting it, when the seller, hat in hand came back asking to buy it back. It had been her first gun purchase years before.

She was a friend of Miss Tina's, and claimed no hard feelings if I said no... But...

The 50s Old Model Single Sixes are by no means common, now, but they're still out there. Keep your eyes open. It's the 50s centerfire Blackhawks that are uber collectible now.

I saw a some of those on a table in a Texas gun show last winter. The guy just wanted more than I wanted to spend for one. Congrats my cowboy guns are going to Texas this year. Lookin forward to the trip as always this time of year. looks like a good shooter to.

Yeah, I'm seeing some crazy prices on OM Rugers. Got this one very reasonable, though.

Thanks guys. Right now I'm looking for the right holster. This one would be the ideal kit gun.

I keep talking about making myself a western rig, but my weight is seesawing right now, so I am waiting to see if I can level out. I've lost a good bit, but my hopes of a major weight loss don't seem to be coming true. Old and gimpy don't help. LOL. I made a nice holster for the Wrangler, and one for the Uberti.
