Followed me home Tisas M1911A1
I was really minding my own business and this Tisas followed me home. I was issued a M1911A1 back when I was a M60 gunner, and really liked it. The second handgun I ever fired was my grandfathers 1911, the first being his JP Sauer & Sohn, Suhl M1913, he brought back from Normandy. Always been a 1911 fan, but never found one that reminded me of my issue one.
What I like about it is the weight, the way they stayed true to the original design and the roll marks that are not correct, but close enough.
Between my son and I, we put 500 rounds downrange last weekend with it. Only one failure to eject. I used the 2 magazines the factor shipped and 2 really old magazines. The failure to eject was with the factory mag. I am not sure if it was a mechanical or a user induced issue. That was near the 50 round count when it happened. All I did was clean off the factory oil, did a light break free application and loaded her up and started shooting.
I like the wood, but my issue one has plastic grips, so I put those on.
Firing it for me was like I was 18 again, except my old eyes can't see the front sight as well. A plus is that when I shake it, it doesn't rattle like my old issue one did.
It is a budget gun, and I didn't expect it to look this well done. The only nitpick I found was the grip screws, they had a little fudging from what looked like undersized screw driver.
Mr Browning might like it too if he was around still.

The Tisas 1911 is pretty well reviewed by the locals around here. Looks like you had a winner follow you home. Strange how when minding your own business this happens….

Looks great. I'm another fan of the 1911 and have had some excellent 1911s in my time. I'm especially fond of the military spec versions like your Tisas.

I have 2 Tisas 1911's. A full size A1, and a Tanker. Fine shooters, but I prefer after market mags ( Wilson Combat) for carry. Factory mags haven't been reliable for me. Like you, I started out with issued 1911's before there were striker fired pistols. About 65 years ago.

Congratulations on a nice handgun. I'm glad to hear it reminds you of your issue pistol. That makes it much more interesting to me.
I'm not against the 1911 style, but it's not one I'm ever going to get excited over. I do appreciate it's historical importance, which is why there might be a Colt Commander prowling my safe.

I will be looking for some extra mags. If an old salty Marine likes them, they should be good.GunnyGene wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:32 amI have 2 Tisas 1911's. A full size A1, and a Tanker. Keep an eye out for sales. Wilson sometimes puts a 6 pack on sale for about 1/2 of what you'd pay if you bought them 1 at a time. These are 8rnd, but they also have 10rnd mags.FormerParatrooper wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 7:18 pmI will be looking for some extra mags. Re: Followed me home Tisas M1911A1
I am a fan of the 1911 myself, and I also have old eyes. I don't know how you would feel about this trick, but I went to hobby lobby and bought a small bottle of their Testers Fluorescent Orange model paint. I had trouble seeing the iron sights on the Mini 14 I had just acquired, and was pretty sure the gun was capable of better groups than I had been shooting. Three coats of paint on the front sight blade, and now it JUMPED into view when I brought the rifle to my shoulder.
It can be cleaned off if I want to return the sight to original condition, and touched up if I ding it. Cheaper than replacing the front sight. I have painted the front blades on some of the handguns red or bright white depending on the use, and I found with old eyes it helps. (I have also switched the front sights to XS big dots.. )
Enjoy the gun, I like the looks of it.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.

I like the paint. I used to use White Out on the front sight post of my A1 and later A2. Helped on the 25m zero targets.
I will be using your paint idea on the front sight.
