Dave
I believe it only comes in 5.5 inch. Its a good looking gun I think and the reviews on it are good. Im more and more trending down in what Im shooting. Like ole Coop says I think I might be in the 22 stage in life. Those big boomers are for the tougher guys like Forty.

I have seen them on the Ruger website but have never seen one in a gun shop. If I ever saw a Ruger SP101 (8 shot .22) with 4: barrel, I would be very tempted. I think it would be a little lighter than the GP100.

Al, I don't keep up with Ruger's current offerings. I have a hard enough time keeping track of Smith and Wesson's. Colt's are somewhat popular on the internet, but that's the only way I see them.\
.
I think a 5.5" barrel would be nice.

I'm with you Al. I like the .22 cal guns and .410 shotguns. I must be returning to my youth. 20 gauge is about as big as I need to go on my property.

If you like it get it, none of us are getting any younger.

Al, when first introduced, reviews on the 22 LR GP-100 were mixed, to say the least. As with any new Ruger revolver, I highly, highly recommend doing an in hand inspection before buying. Ruger QC is notorious for being all over the map, one gun to the next and hey, I am a big Ruger fan. If you're going to be spending that kind of money on a 22 revolver, I'd also look at a S&W 617 and one of the new Colt King Cobra 22s. They're in that same general price range. Same advice to inspect first for these, too.

With you all the way on going more and more 22 LR for my shooting, though. In fact, I seem to be collecting more and more 22 LR pistols and revolvers these days.

When they first came out I looked at one and some of the machining around back of cylinder was rougher than the Smith 617 I compared it to, Also there were issues reported on the net of some light strikes. Now things may have improved since then.

Thanks NCG. As I mentioned I do have a 617 in 6 inch. I was able to put my hands on it before I bought it. It shoots good better than me. In this case I am not able to put my hands on the Ruger before I purchase it as the local gun shop has none in stock. But the S&W 617 has had its share of issues lately as many have returned to Smith because of poor workmanship on the forcing cone. Its just the sign of the times. Ruger has always taken care of me when I needed to send something back

Yeah Al it is just luck of the draw no matter the name stamped on it! Interesting I have had great luck with all the Uberti revolvers being right the first time but not the same with the Rugers...Smiths...or Colts. However the last new Smith I got was the 686 Plus and that 7 shooter was perfect in every way!

Forty there is something missing in a lot of today’s work force. Not all of it but a lot of it. It’s called PRIDE in what you are doing. Its not very common anymore
