SW 686 Plus 3" and Henry .357 BB Carbine?
SW 686 Plus 3" and Henry .357 BB Carbine?
Hi,
I'm contemplating buying my first wheel gun in over 30 years to compliment my BB. All my current handguns are 9mm semi autos with short, light resets.
Anyone else have this same setup? I'll be carrying it in colder weather, range gun and as a night stand gun to go with my Henry. I'm a SW fan, so I've ruled out the GP100. Thoughts?
Thx

I have a couple of .357 S&W revolvers. I did consider Ruger. But, a .357 Ruger was not available, when I was looking. Plus, S&Ws seem to be smoother.

I already had a S&W 19 with 2 1/2" barrel so I really didn't need to pair up something with my BBS 357 Mag. But, that didn't stop me, I went and added a Cimarron Pistolero in 357 just for nostalgia. Single actions are fun at the range.
If I were to go looking for a S&W revolver I'd look for and older one without the lock and barrel shroud. But, that's just me and I'm not saying they are bad. It's just my preference. I'm just not a fan of the new S&W's. The old ones in good condition are hard to find without paying and arm and a leg. I missed a 686 3" pre-lock about a month ago because I was on vacation out of the country.

I own a 6" S&W 686. It is by far my favorite. It was one of my first guns. Pre lock -2. I love it and would never let it go. It is an amazing wheel gun for balance and accuracy. Great trigger right out of the box as well. Amazing that when I bought mine, ( early 80's) that it was only about $350.00. Ya just won't find one for that anymore, yet, I would buy it again, even at a higher price.
I actually bought my first Henry BBS 357 to pair with IT! If you can afford the 686, go for it, in any configuration. It will not disappoint!

Maybe not what you're looking for but since you have 9mm semi-autos to use as nightstand guns you might consider a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible. Single action and it comes with a 9mm cylinder so when you're just plinking you can use considerably cheaper 9mm ammo.

Hmmmm...... that a great idea. I never knew these even existed. Definitely 4.5" for me. Now I have to think about the idea for having only a SA revolver. I've seen some cowboy shooters shoot them faster than I could ever shoot a DA! Where did you get that nice holster? I have a 6” 686+ and bought my Henry Big Boy Steel to compliment it. I had a 4” but traded it for this 6”. Wish I could go back as I liked the 4” better. Either way one fine revolver and a 3” is great if you plan to carry it. Back when I used to muzzleloader hunt for Elk I carried my 4’ 686 for predators. It carried very well.

I didn't pay anywhere near the MSRP.
It would be a good companion for the BB carbine. I is sometimes my carry gun and has seen the inside of the nightstand on occasion. It would be a good carry in cold weather.

Mernickle Hosters, he makes very nice holsters. Mine is a perfect fit for my Ruger. Was about $100, you can get it with a matching cartridge belt but the belts are more expensive than the holsters,$288 for both. He has many different styles but like most custom holster makers it's a long wait, 12-14 weeks.Retlawman wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 10:42 am
