The 2 rarest lugers are in a private collection. They were chambered in.45 and personally signed by George Herman luger. Serial numbered 1 and 2, they were submitted to the US government competition for a new military sidearm in 1911. The Colt .45 1911 won out. Good thing as we were in war with Germany very shortly after that. Not sure where these guns are now.

Followup: just googled it. One is in private collection and other one's location is unknown. One sale was for 1 million and last sale was around $489k. It is out there somewhere.
