Ruger Police Service 6 arrived today....

Post by fortyshooter » Wed Jun 30, 2021 4:23 pm

Picked it up this afternoon and checked it out. Listed as in Fair condition with lots of holster wear the mechanicals seem to be okay.
The B/C gap is at .008 with cylinder all the way back and has .008 cylinder end play. Will get a shim kit to tighten it up a bit.
Trigger pull is nice and cylinder locks up fine. Looks like it spent some time in Georgia. Anyone know what GDM stands for?
Compares nicely to my S&W 66 and fits same holster too. Range test coming soon!

Looks decent. I had one like it that was a counter gun. On a flat, rubberized bar magnet under a countertop. Flawless function, accurate.. Not pretty. :D But, always handy if someone unexpected popped in thru the kitchen door. ;)

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Serial number indicates a 1977 build. Will take some shots with it this weekend.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

The revolver had a bit of end shake showing .008 end play and the cylinder shims I had were for S&W revolvers. Wanted to shoot it this weekend so
I punched out my own .006 shim out of some stainless shim stock. It took some hand work to get the O.D. down several thousandths to a .401 dia. but it worked out real nice. Cylinder rotates smooth with no felt end shake. Nice and smooth. I do have some shims on order for a couple bucks incase I need them. So will see how it shoots this weekend with great weather in the forecast!

Forty Congrats. No clue on what GDM stands for. I lived in Georgia for 23 years, before moving to VA. Passed thru Hoschton many times, to get to Winder when I taught motorcycle safety classes. Pretty much a small rural southern town and not much there.
