Hi Howard,

I agree with you that practice with model of choice is the key. For me, I lean toward a revolver due to point and shoot. I may not handle a firearm on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. And, I have not had to firearm one in the name of defense. If I do, I would like to keep it simple. There are probably plenty of variants of semi-autos out there. The only ones that I am familiar with are Colt 1911 and Beretta 92. Maybe if I fired them more often then a couple times throughout a year, semi-autos may would have grown on me. Yet, I can pick up a revolver, anytime throughout a year, and not miss a beat: just point and shoot. No thought to a round being chambered, safety or misfeed. For home defense, this is a plus for me. On a battlefield or law enforcement situation, maybe not. In the end, your advice is on point: choose the model that you are most comfortable with. Nice video and shooting!

Another reason to choose the revolver...
I broke my wrist rather badly two months ago.
Can't work the slide or perform a malfunction drill.
I can work my Smith 340 .357.

Even though I have several semi autos, I find myself shooting my revolvers more. The reason is I reload so I want my brass all back in my hand and not scattered all over in the dirt.

Thanks all! I think the important thing is to select whatever works best for you and then train with it. There is so much that goes into making choices involving our personal safety, and I think every individual is best able to decide what he or she needs to address their own personal circumstances.

As an instructor, I taught the one hand techniques for both, they work. The ones for semi-auto are much more difficult to master, and we don't want to START the day that way.

If you can't work the slide, you carry the revolver til you can. Luckily for me, one of my three primary choices for EDC was already a very nice revolver. I love it, shoot it well, and trust it.

Good video Howard. It really bring to light how each one can perform well. One thing for sure, you hit the nail on the head when you said "select whatever works best for you and then train with it." Too many folks ignore the last part of that statement.
