I had a chance to check out some revolvers today at a local store.
- Traditions Peacemaker by Pietta
- Uberti Cattleman 1873
- Uberti El Patron

The Pietta was the "Rawhide" entry level with walnut grips and a mat black finish. The Cattleman was stainless steel with walnut grips. The El Patron was blued, case hardened and checkered walnut grips.
I must say, fit and finish on the Ubertis was beautiful. It gave me a chance to see some variations in finishes too. That being said when the time comes to buy I will go with Uberti. A little more money but very good looking replicas. Colt or Remington copy is the big decision. Hmmmm...

The fit and finish on a Uberti is super. I like the case colored models. I have handled them and really like the feel of a well made single action but I talk myself out of one because I am not really a big hand gun fan. I shoot them pretty well but just prefer rifles. I once owned the complete set of Ruger's made in the Bicentennial year. I shot all of them and never gave it a second thought. I looked at some Beretta single actions that if I remember right they were Uberti's.

I've read that the SmokeWagon (that I own) is Taylors' version of the El Patron. It's a beautiful gun and fun to shoot.

I usually shoot both, my .357 Big Boy and my revolver, during each session, alternating five rounds with each gun. The revolver is really cool. So's the Henry.

Handling a Uberti in a shop was the reason it came home with me. I was just looking honest! But the salesman asked that question. Do you want to look at it?
I swear the gun infected me with a virus. I simply couldn't give it back.

Ya the Uberti sure felt good in the hand.

I've never handled an Uberti. All the guns I've looked at, I've never handled one.

I hate to say it, but my Ruger .22lr/.22mag is the only single action revolver I think I've ever owned. I have fired a few Colt SAA's and that's it.

I'll have to check one out next visit to the lgs.

I was impressed with the quality on the outside. If it shoots as good as it looks, it's a keeper.

Not too long ago Ruger WAS the best SA you could buy . I think Uberti made guns in my eyes make a far better gun . I sold all but 2 of my Ruger SA .

COOL, They are purty !!

txgunrunners pics of his BA reminded me of the Bond Arms Snake Slayer derringer in .357 Magnum I used to have. Although not a revolver, it's a S/A handgun I really regret letting get out of my gun cabinet.

Here are some pictures of mine. [Click pic for larger view] And the second barrel you see is a 9MM caliber. Quality-built, solid stainless steel derringer --- made in the USA in the Lone Star State. Very fun to shoot.

Ok, so I'm at a gun show this morning and I'm checking out the Cimmaron-Uberti booth. I'm trying to gather as much info on the 1873 Peacemaker style guns as I can because once my updated license shows up I will purchase.
Then I saw it. A Cimmaron 1872 Open Top in 45 Colt with 7.5" barrel. Blued, case hardened, walnut grip. BEAUTIFUL. I'm sold. That is the revolver for me. I held it, cocked it, dry fired it and spent about an hour drooling over it. What a gorgeous gun.

I've not heard of an "open top" revolver before, so looked at your gun choice on the Cimmaron site....interesting configuration. It is a cool-looking single-action! But what really caught my eye was the rear sight built on the rear of the barrel in front of the cylinder. That is different, yet it looks to be an exceptionally clean design. I wonder what the sight picture looks like for this revolver? How did it look to you, RR?

Final Q. Did you choose the Army or Navy model?

I'll find a pic of the one I was handling. Think it was Army. It was very clean looking down the sights. Easy to bring up and get on target. I would love to fire it. It's definitely old timey and right up my alley.

This is the Uberti I was interested in at the gun show. 1872 Open Top Army, late model. 45 Colt. It felt awesome in my hand. Beautiful detailing and fit and finish. There were others there too, 1860 Richards Mason conversion, 1851 Navy. All by Uberti Cimarron. But the 1872 was really unique and extra cool. Reviews on Google look ok, one review said it's "old, slow, obsolete and a ton of fun to shoot!" Sounds like my kind of revolver!
Viggo Mortenson's character "Everett Hitch" carries one in Appaloosa. Picked up a Cimarron catalog too. Eye candy! One other cool bit of info, these revolvers were originally chambered in 44 Henry rimfire to accompany the Henry rifle. So it all seems to fit!

Here is my copy of 1858 Remy . This is 1st and only time I shot it since 1985 . I was going to give it to my buddy son who engraved it in Ca FREE and he no longer like guns and has no other family for me to give it to them . So I guess I will sell it .

Nice looking revolver. How come you didn't shoot it more often?
