New (to me) Colt Woodsman

Post by Ernie » Sat Apr 17, 2021 6:10 pm

Stopped at the LGS this morning to check on my Henry order. When I walked in the door I paused for a moment and I immediately spotted the Colt in the 22 case. There is not a scratch or any wear on it and it has the box, manual, and the warranty registration card (in case I want to register it). I did not know they made one with a 4-1/2" barrel, the one my Dad gave me has a 6" as well as the Challenger model I have. I picked up this one and told the clerk that it was mine. The guy next to me told me he had not seen it as it was under some boxes on the counter but if I did not want it he did. Sorry!

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Man, even the box appears to be in perfect condition. The collector value of the set up must be through the roof. Nice find!

I wonder if the 4.5” is the Sport Model and maybe the 6” would be a Target Model? Don’t know, just guessing here.

You are correct, mine are both from the third series around 1969. I also have a Challenger model that was produced in the 1950s which was from the second series. I learned the hard way not to break down the Target model as I was forced to take it to a gunsmith to get the last part in to lock it together. Would be nice to find a Match Target model at a reasonable price but I chances are not good.
