Hello everyone,
regularly the axis which fixes the barrel on my 586 (Part # 1 on the schema) unscrews slightly.
Can we fix it with a little blue locktite?

thanks, see you soon ...

Use purple Locktite instead. Too much blue and it may be very difficult to remove.

I agree and would try Purple first .... if that isn't sufficient, I believe I'd seek advice from S&W or a gunsmith you trust

Purple Locktite can be a bit harder to find, however I agree.

Purple will come off easy if heated with a hair dryer.

I have used a product called Vibra Tite for years on printing and press machines. It works by not drying hard. Stays viscous so you never have to heat it to remove it. I have used it on my Smith and Wesson Victory pistol. The screw that locks the barrel to the frame on the early models were notorious for working loose while shooting. It is easy to disassemble the gun for cleaning. Clean off the remaining product and reapply. The screw has never loosened since.
It looks like the stuff my mom used to put on any scrapes and cuts when I was a kid. Burned like hell.

I remember that stuff: Merthiolate or Mercurochrome

I wouldn’t use Loctite on it. Brownell’s sells an EXTRACTOR ROD TOOL for $22 that is for this job. But all you really need is a thin piece of brass or something similar that won’t mar or scratch the extractor rod when you tighten it. Put empty cartridges in the chambers when you tighten/loosen it.
