Any security six fans here ?

Post by Holiday009 » Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:20 am

Long story short, I’ve been wanting a 2 3/4” security six for ever it seems, my father in law has one in stainless finish he bought new in the 1970’s. He won’t part with it, I keep telling him that I’m going to deal him out of it eventually on some kind of trade.

Almost bought an Sp101 with a 3” barrel several times, but, I’m still holding out to find a security six in good shape. Don’t see many come up for sale, they’ve been out of production for 30 + years now.

It’s just that one particular firearm I’ve always wanted and searching for one is half of the fun about it. Love to see any photos if anyone has one.

Good luck finding one. One of Ruger's best!

My first handgun was a 4” blue Security Six. Nice revolver but I think I traded it in on a 6” S&W M/19 as I recall. When my father-in-law passed away he had a 4” stainless that became mine and I foolishly traded that away too. Right now there is one for sale locally that is catching my eye but I’m going to resist!!! Great revolver that has passed it’s time as progress has made revolvers much stronger with new models such as the GP100. Like a K frame Smith, giving it a steady diet of 38 +P and an occasional chamber full of .357 would keep in running forever.

That’s a pretty one.

I doubt that’s the original box/case. Unless it was a late production.

I’ve foolishly trade off numerous guns I’d like to have back. A Colt Diamondback .38 in the Royal blue comes to mind 🤦‍♂️

Always like the security six, and the speed six, but I've never owned one.

Holiday, probably a lot of us here in that boat.
Colt Trooper with a 4" barrel comes to mind right off.

I have a 4" stainless SS that I received in the early 80's, it's a great shooter still, used to qualify as expert with it I used it as a duty gun and still shoot it my sons love it. I run standard .38 loads and mild & full power .357 loads with no problem. The original box was cardboard (still have it & all paper work stored) Packmyer grips with the originals. :D :D

I had one in blue since the 80's. Gave it to my son 2 years ago, when I purchased a GP100. Always liked the weight and feel.

Although I’m a Smith guy I always liked the Security Six cylinder release being a push button. Maybe not a fast as the S&W slide type but I have never shot revolvers in any activity requiring fast reloads so I can’t comment on that aspect. Just the ascetics of it. Nice pic ol’pole.
