On my Taylors/Uberti Running Iron .45 six shooter I noticed a while back the cylinder pin was getting hard to remove. Got it out and noticed a slight bend right in area of one of the lock pin grooves. With the pin undercut all around it causes a weak spot and also noticed they are a soft steel easy to bend.
So I made up my own custom pin out of hardened tool steel....the whole pin was machined on a cylindrical grinder I had access to while doing part time Tooling repair at a small manufacturing company. Made it shorter to eliminate the second notch position used as a hammer safety...never used that feature. Machined just a single locking notch instead of grinding all around....stronger. Made the end with a simple head to grab and remove and then used cold bluing on head. Pin is just a touch larger in diameter for a better slip fit.
After a couple years still works fine!

I don't know if it will bend, but the cylinder pin in my "Bad Boy" .44 magnum looks a little small for its job in that gun. Hot magnum loads are violently snappish and the smallish looking pin doesn't inspire confidence that the gun can take much of that abuse. It's not much fun for my old hand so I shoot specials in it at the range. If I ever carry it in bear country (which I ain't) I'll load it up.
(In reality I would carry my BBS carbine anyhow. I'm scared o them brownies.)

I had to do the same (kinda ) thing for a Uberti P JR. 38sp.
The ejector rod would not clear the cyl. pin so I could not remove the cyl. I think they installed the wrong ejector rod housing plus they put a huge knurled end on the pin. ????? Plus it was sloppy loose .
I bought a 36" piece of drill rod 2 thousandths larger from Granger for about 5 bucks and whittled it out with files and a drill press.
Wow a tighter center pin makes HUGE improvements in how solid the lockup is. Added plus is you can get rid of the silly second safety notch.
No picture of the pin but you can see it poking out of the top gun.

Probably a hundred rounds. It started to get harder to pull out and had to tap it out with a small wood dowel to get it to move.
Don't know what the cause was and only shoot standard pressure Colt 45 loads thru it.

That is the diminutive Ruger Bearcat , in this case punched out to 22 mag.

Great work. I think that I would let Taylors know that they are selling a revolver with a substandard cylinder pin.

I just picked up a Pietta revolver chambered in .357 Magnum and a Uberti revolver chambered in .38 Special. I'll have to keep a close watch on them.

Now I have a Uberti built Cimarron .357 SA revolver I bought thru Evil Roy's shop which is built to his requirements. It is the old black powder styled frame with screw lock pin and have had no issues with that at all.
