That would be over penetration, at 22-23 inches that's both entry and exit. The picture shows blue gene lint in the hollow pts with no expansion. My top 2 preferences are within FBI standard for penetration with maximum expansion.markiver54 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 9:58 amYes, and those PMC 95gr. May offer some insight:
https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-d ... %20gelatin.
I think I'd be picking
Hornady 90 gr FTX Critical Defense
or Sig Sauer 90 gr V-Crown
and maybe Speer 90 gr Gold Dot
The site should be fixed. We show secure now, we should have a favicon and the picture aspect should be better.

Well darn. I was kinda hoping you're doing #1 and #2 would give you some relief. I hope you heal well and that you have good luck with PT.markiver54 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 9:43 amI rack in #2 mode but currently I can't make a tight enough fist to hold the rack tight enough. In the meantime, I guess I'll keep carrying my XD-s 9mm and switch hands to rack in the unlikely event I would have to. 🫨
1. Pinch the back of the rack with your thumb and pointer finger and pull the rack back/push the pistol forward under the rack?
or
2. With the pistol pointed to the left, fist grip the top of the rack while pushing the rack to right/push the pistol to the left?
In the first you would pulling the tendons and ligaments in your hand, wrist and some fingers.
In the second you would be compressing into the base of your hand, wrist and forearm. This can be less painful and easier to do.

Totally agree I carry an extra loading strip for my 38 special. I havent worried about it only being 5 round capacityBrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 10:55 amI know there are a lot of people who don't carry a spare mag. I usually heard this argument against it when I suggested a second mag for semi-autos in my classes. "I have ten/twelve/fifteen rounds. If I can't get 'er done with that, I shouldn't be carrying a gun."
I would agree that most self defense engagement situations take place at close range, and with one on one confrontations, few shots are fired. However, a firearm is a mechanical device, and things happen. If your magazine fails, your seventeen round firearm is a single shot. If you fumble and hit the mag release in the dark and drop the mag... Bad things can happen. You can't find the mag, or the base plate strikes the concrete at the wrong angle and exits stage left, along with the mag spring and the ammunition, you're done.
A spare mag, you reload and continue to defend yourself and your loved one. No mag? Move to another time zone. Is it likely your mag will fail? No, but they do.
We have spare tires in the car and fire extinguishers in the kitchen.![]()
I carry two mags for the Sig, three bianchi strips for the Smith revolvers. But thats just me. I have the type of background to know there be monsters.

I agree, although I carry more ammo than most. Funny thing, I never felt under gunned carrying revolvers. I shot them well and they were extemely reliable. We made the switch to semis due to all the younger officers pushing the Chief... and all the surrounding departments having long transitioned.
Chief told me to make it happen.

Re: Revolver For EDC/Concealed Carry
Surprisingly, today I've been practicing using my index finger/knuckle and thumb as in the # 1 mode. I'm able to do that. Believe it or not I don't know that I've ever attempted that. The most natural to me has been the #2 method but I think I can get used to doing it this way. That part of my hand is still strong.Mags wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 1:01 pmWell darn. Thank you for the well wishes. Back to PT Wednesday.

Re: Revolver For EDC/Concealed Carry
I use #2 as well. With my first semi-auto a few years back I was struggling with #1. I don't have enough grip/squeeze strength to hold onto the rack with my left thumb & index knuckle. Since then I've used #2.markiver54 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 4:36 pm...

Re: Revolver For EDC/Concealed Carry
I really like what I'm reading and seeing about the Ruger Security 380. Leaning that way. Maybe I was pre-mature in thinking I had to go with a revolver. Going to call that favorite GS tomorrow and see what they want for one. Going back up there to the cottage late week. Heck...the local Sportsmans Warehouse store is asking $299.00 so I'm betting my favorite store might come in even a bit less.
I look at the less powerful 380 as being viable, especially with a 15+1 magazine and even 10+1 in the more concealable mag.
$300.00 won't break me either.
I know 380 ammo costs a bit more than 9mm but,

Re: Revolver For EDC/Concealed Carry
There have been several articles recently about the viability of 380 as a defensive round. They have all basically concluded: "With today's modern offering of quality self defense ammo; such as hydra-shok, Gold Dot, and their contemporaries, the 380 can serve as an perfectly adequate EDC firearm for those needing something in that class.
There are times people will need to go that route.
I'll stick with my three gun rotation.
Keep us posted.

Re: Revolver For EDC/Concealed Carry
A little off topic as it wasn’t a revolver but here’s a personal story why it’s prudent to carry an extra mag.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 10:55 amI know there are a lot of people who don't carry a spare mag. When taking an advanced defensive handgun class we would be allowed to go down range and do movement drills. I was using a Glock 23 with a spare mag in a mag holder on my belt. After firing the first shot during the drill my mag fell out of the gun. (Yeah, this idiot didn’t seat it properly nor did this idiot do the slap drill) So when the mag fell my training kicked in and I quickly grabbed my spare mag and finished the drill. Only when it was done did I go find the mag that dropped. That was a good lesson for me.

Well, I called my fav GS and they are getting them in within the next couple of days. Price quoted is $289.00. Gonna stop and handle one when I go up there later this week. Might be a done deal. We'll see.
