Great stories, guys. Thanks for sharing.

This pre 17s are even more collectible, but it so rare to find one in mint condition, now.

Have to say, though, I've come real close with my 1937 Colt Officers Model Target in 22 LR. It was the target 22 revolver in the 30s before S&W brought out the K22 Masterpiece after WW II to compete. Frame size is between a K and L on the Smith. As I've posted before, this is the smoothest revolver I have ever owned. Nothing like it made, today. Mint condition, too.

There were 2 versions of the S&W K-22 pre-war. The 3rd version (pre 17) came out in 1946. There is/was a model 18 'Combat Masterpiece' in .22 that came out in 1949.
