Mark III or IV

I want to add a Mark .22 pistol to my collection.I'm thinking Mark III or Mark IV which one should I choose? Help.

PT7 has a Mark IV that he seems to like, but might be willing to part with. Seems he's having the opposite experience from the one I'm having regarding Revolvers vs. Semi-Autos. He seems to be a devoted revolver man!

I'd go for the Mark IV. Way easier to clean and just as much fun. I made the mistake of letting go of a Mark III and regret it as I live in CA and now can't buy one.

I wouldn't let the cleaning of a MK II or III stop me from buying one. I personally would shop for a nice used MK II. The MK II has non of the negative features of the III and IV that were not needed in the first place. The MK II is the actually the best of the Mark series. Better trigger than the other Marks. Doesn't have the loaded chamber indicator and doesn't have to have the magazine in to dry fire it to start the disassembly procedure. To many folks get scared off because of the disassembly of the II and the III and it is not hard at all. You tube is your best friend on seeing how it is done. Yup ^^^^^^^^^^^^ I agree with what Bandit said. I own both. I bought a Mark IV Ultra lite in a 22/45 because I got a really good deal on it. Its alot of fun to shoot. But I have a Mark III Hunter model and I have seen some pretty good deals on the II and III because on the cleaning deal. But there not that hard to clean and what the heck there is some entertainment value in trying to reassemble.

Add me to the list that MUCH prefers the MK II. Have owned dozens of the Standard/MK I, II and III Rugers and, of those, I'd place the MK II as the best of the lot in terms of functional features actually needed. More than that, though, I'd also place the early Standards/MK Is and IIs as having the most consistent quality. QC started to wane with the MK IIIs and had some of those that needed a LOT of work to get right.

I do understand about how some would hesitate buying a pre MK IV Mark because of the take down thing. I learned to do it with my first Standard, back in the 70s and could now do it in my sleep. In fact, I used to do trigger jobs on Ruger Marks for friends. The MK IV, though, is not the same gun, internally, so of no interest to me. I'm sure it's a great gun and all, so not knocking it. That takedown feature is wasted on me, though.

I went to my LGS to eyeball some Mark .22 pistols.I have made up my mind I put a Mark IV standard on layaway plan will have it in a couple months because I'm buy lever action rifle right now.Picking up one tomorrow.

Beautiful pistol....yes the MkIV is the way to go....I also would prefer a nice used MKII over a MKIII...

My Xmas gift from my daughter Mark IV Standard .22 lr 6" BARREL..I added a Mark IV .22/45,I thought $289+ taxes was a good price so I bought it.
