Hawes Sauer Western Marshal Revolver

Not long ago I bought a new Henry Big Boy 44 mag Rifle. I always like to have a single action revolver in the same caliber. So today I bought a very clean Hawes JP Sauer Western Marshal 44 mag revolver from a friend of mine. Hopefully this finishes up my rifle /revolver combination. If you have had one or known someone that has, I would like to hear some thoughts. It was made in Germany and feels great in my hand.

I have a 1851 BP replica in 36 cal. that has the Hawes name on it.
But I have yet to fire it.
When I get home this weekend I'll check it out to see exactly what it does say.
So it's really no help to ya.

TRock, that is a very nice looking revolver! Looks very much like my Pietta 1873 .45 Colt. I didn't even know Sauer made SA revolvers. Damn nice!

From what I understand Hawes was an importer in California . Most of them were shipped in the late 60's and 70's. At the time another cheaper Colt clone. This one didn't seem to have too hard of life.

Made in Germany I bet it is built well. How is the action and cylinder fit as in end play and cylinder /barrel gap?

Those were made by J.P. Sauer and that company later became the Sig Sauer (sp) we know today. They are very well built and the .44s had recessed chambers for a while just like the early S&W 29's. I had one in .45 Colt many years ago. Also the big Herters single action as in .357, ..........44 Magnum and 401 Powermag were all made by that outfit. I believe that you might find that your cylinder pin does not have the extra safety notch that the newer imported single actions have. That is because it was imported before the feds required it.

Action is good on it . Trigger pull is just light enough for me. It locks up tight. My friend bought it from a pawn shop. It actually looked like it hadn't been fired. No cylinder drag scratches. Wondering if it was a safe queen that someone owned who passed away and a family member took it for quick cash. Can't verify that , but sadly have seen it happen before.
