Downsizing some more~~~
Downsizing some more~~~
Discussions around our house...
I am almost positive that my husband is selling his last, sweet 9mm pistol and only keeping and using the .45acp caliber for the last of his handguns.
If he makes this last handgun move, he will only reload for that ONE handgun caliber and a few rifle calibers.
He has not reloaded for shotguns in a long time. Long before I knew him. He only has one shotgun left and he may go to a lighter gauge but I am not positive.
I organized his last small group of holsters this evening. He only uses 2 famous firearm brands in his .45 acp pistols and it has been that way for several years now.
I organized his small group of knives too. (He is at work.) I told him that I would update his lists too.

Re: Downsizing some more~~~
Understand about "downsizing." Been there and done that with different things during retirement, and elder age!
Yup, understand about going to a lighter gauge shotgun, too. Last year I had to sell my 12-gauge pump, which I used for deer hunting. Great s/g, and I really liked it. Recovered a new shotgun this spring, and decided on a 20-gauge pump --- same manufacturer, another great s/g. So I still can use it for deer hunting, plus I'm starting to learn how to shoot trap with it, too. The lighter gauge and weight has been a good move for me.
Also last year I had to sell my Henry .357 BBB. It was the first Big Boy Henry I had, and the octagon barrel was a heavy dude. Well, I didn't exactly "replace" the .357. But I now have a Henry Small Game Carbine in .22LR. Still a smooth lever-action Henry, but huge difference in caliber and weight! As I'm getting older, these downsizing "factors" have been helpful.
But at the same time, 'tis hard to do. When you wrote about your husband letting the 9MM go, "if he makes this last handgun move....," it was kind of sad to read that. Can only say best of everything to you both as you do more downsizing.

Re: Downsizing some more~~~
PT7,
My husband has a sweet Remington 870 Marine Magnum - 12 gauge. He loves it but he does not shoot it that often any longer.
HE is in pretty good shape, tall and fairly strong and he walks 2 to 3 miles at a fast pace almost every day or 5 times a week. He does not jog. But in some other things in life... he has made some changes from a to z due to his older age.
Don't be sad for my husband if he ends up selling his last, sweet 9mm pistol and the stuff for it. He doesn't 'have to sell it'. In our house, things get sold or gifted if they don't get used on a regular basis. He used a full in store credit for that pistol as we did when we made some other major firearm, supply and gear changes when we sold other things over time.
He will just be going to ONE handgun caliber 'on purpose' if he ends up selling the 9mm pistol.
The '45' caliber was/is his favorite caliber in acp and in long colt. Since he made a decision to go to ONLY 9mm and 45acp caliber pistols a few years ago... he told me at that time that IF he ends up only going to ONE caliber as he ages and as HIS interests change... it would be in the 45acp pistol caliber.
He owns some very nice 45 acp pistols in two famous brands and in two specific styles.
He changed his main daily carry CCW pistol a few years ago too.
ALL of his and my s/a and d/a revolvers in CF and RF including some other sweet CF and RF semi automatic pistols got sold and gifted over the years. So that only left 9mm and 45acp caliber pistols for him.
I don't shoot or own handguns and have not for several years now.
I still shoot 22lr in a couple of CZ rifles. And in the Savage Rascal one. I shoot .223 on and off in the one CZ rifle too. (CZ thread.) He shoots them on and off too.
My husband does not shoot 22lr firearms as much as I do. He never did shoot RF firearms as MUCH as I did in my former HIGH volume shooting days or even now. He shoots his CF rifles in .223, 30-30, 30-06 and 45-70. He shot more '45' than in 9mm in his pistols too.
Have a great day! Enjoy your firearms. There is nothing wrong with having to make changes in firearms, knives or in any other thing or tool due to age, a physical limitation or even if your TASTES change in firearms over time.
God bless you and yours.

Re: Downsizing some more~~~
I retired in 1993 and I decide to down size my guns collection of over 175 high dollar guns to where today I have less then 30 guns and no more high dollar or collector grade guns . I don't have any family to leave them too and my ex-wife and girlfriends will wholesale them out at a faction of there value when I die . My girlfriend in Az gets all the guns not allow in Ca where my ex-wife lives . Over 1/2 my guns are not allow in Ca . I own 3 Glock's and 1 of them is not Ca approved .

We never regretted any item that we sold or gifted over the years.
I never had any children with my late husband.
My MT husband already gave his family and a few of his friends firearms, firearm related gifts and many other gifts over the years.
I gifted some guns and knives to close friends and to him. Vice versa. I did the same thing with my late husband. Vice versa. We gave a bunch of very nice knives to charity too.
My only older brother, his three children, my only older sister and my two cousins were NOT interested in any of my nice firearms. I was the baby in our family of 3 children.
I never owned 'custom made' firearms like the few that my MT husband used to own, shoot and enjoy but I always had NIB, very nice, quality made firearms.
One close friend who is the executor of our estate will inherit what is left of our firearms and ALL firearm related stuff in the end. He can KEEP them, sell them or gift them! He lives in Montana. He gets some other things too. IF the three of us all die at the same time... Glacier National Park can SELL them since they will get them at that time.
We have LESS than 16 firearms in our home right now. That may go down some more as I said above.

I need to down size my collection of military firearms. My only reason is to make room for more new ones.

Now is the time to sell if you are serious about selling and/or gifting some firearms.Sir Henry wrote:I need to down size my collection of military firearms. My only reason is to make room for more new ones.
What HENRY rifles or any other brand of firearms do you want to buy when you get rid of your military firearms?
Take care.
