Sig 227 vs. Virginia LEO Handgun Course

Good qual course to test shooting skills. And your 97.2% with a new-to-you pistol is A-OK!

From your perspective as a Police Chief, why do some states' quals have a much lower qualifying %, e.g. this VA course at 70%? In a real-life incident, handling a live shooter has got to be filled with much pressure. I'd think the higher the shooting skill level, the more effectively the situation can be resolved.

The CO 100% in target requirement is yet at the top of my "like" list.

Nice job Howard, especially with a borrowed weapon you have never fired. I have never shot the 227 myself, I 'll stick with my aged P220. Lightweight frame, single stack eight round mags, and very accurate. She's old and worn, but still gets the job done.

God job Howard. Like one poster mentioned I to pull the shots with a Sig. There 1911's are great but I shy away for the 200 series as I just have trouble shooting them.

Nice work, Howard, especially with your first time shooting a Sig. I grew up on Sigs and shoot some better than others. I had a 227 (SAS model) back in the day, but it was one of the first ones I sold when I re-jiggered my arsenal. I guess that's testimony to where it stood in the pecking order.

I wish I could give you an intelligent answer to that question, but I don't think there is really any quantifiable reason. I suspect the general idea that 70% represents an acceptable score on most tests explains the reason you see it used a lot. Then there is the philosophy that, firearms proficiency being such a critical skill, proficiency with arms should exceed the usual "acceptable" standard. That thinking would account for the states that use a higher score for qualification. The variance from state to state, however, is just a reflection in the differing opinions of those who ultimately make the rules.

Getting the job done is all that matters. I think I would prefer the single-stack 220 over the 227.
