1941 Remington 510

Post by bandit1250 » Wed Jun 22, 2016 8:34 am

I put my '41 510 Remington back together yesterday between rain showers and windy conditions when shooting was not a good idea. This was bought for $90 mostly for a parts gun but I shot it and couldn't tear it apart for parts because it shot to good to do that to it. I had this apart for a while and did the wood over and had to repair a broken butt plate with some pieces missing from the plastic plate. I used Acra-glas gel with the black die in it to build up the broken areas to match up to the butt shape. The acra-glas was to shiny so I gave it a coat of flat black and then a satin clear and it turned out well. I also gave the metal a coat of black because of the shape the bluing was in and put a coat of satin clear on it also. This rifle was used a lot but had the bore cared for very well. Probably a farm rifle for pests at one time. I will get around to shooting this some time soon. It usually is quite accurate. Turned out to be a decent old piece.

Other side. It has a 3-9 Bushnell on it and Millett rings and this scope I believe is one I set the parallax at 55 yds. Scope bases are glued on with Loc-Tite Black Max.

I love buying older rifles like this and bringing them back to life. I would never have guessed that was a parts rifle.

Again you have done something remarkable to a gun that needed it. The original owner would be hard pressed to recognize it.
