Hey,
Been out a while, but I am back. Here are a couple of Marlins I picked up, and tickled to have them(also found a Henry .44, picture in another thread)
Pictured is a 30TK (K-Mart brand Marlin) and a JM stamped 45/70 stainless. Hope to get to shoot them this weekend.

That 30TK would look purdy in my hands.

Nice pair! Thanks for posting.
Man, the stainless has a
really nice wood stock.
So unlike SH and Vaquero, I don't need two hands. My one hand will work fine to hand me the stainless rifle!!

Thank you very much for the kind words. Cowboy Gun Fan, I also an a fan of straight stock lever rifles.
The 30TK I had missed out on about a year ago. I asked the buyer to keep me in mind if he ever wanted to sell it. Well, he remembered, contacted me and I now have it. It really looks better than the picture.
The stainless 45/70 was just dumb luck. On a local forum, a guy posted a picture of it, I asked if he would consider trading it, and low and behold, I now have it. Just dumb luck. Gosh, it is good to be back on this site. I have missed it.

I'm actually quite fond of Marlins, at least the new XT-22s. I changed the scope on this the other day, in the rain; I just wanted a simple scope.
It was a good time to shoot, cooled off by the rain. This a .22 WMR.
BTW, I don't like to shoot magnums on the property, so i have a few hundred rounds of the 45g WRF Winchesters. They're a little quieter (1400 fps), but shoot a little low.
edit to add: I looked at a few Marlin 336 30-30s at Academy last week. Not at all impressed; sorry.
They do have the XT-22 in LR with a wood stock for $199. That's a bargan.
I'll put my target scope on one of those

I did not check my thread. Sorry for not replying sooner.
The answer to your question is yes, on the 45/70 and no on the 30/30. I have put 50 rounds down range with the 45/70. None of the rounds were the high end rounds, just middle of the road stuff. I was not as accurate as I felt I should be, so I took the rifle to a buddy of mine and we just bore sighted it, made some minor adjustments and I went back to shooting. That changed everything for me. Much more accurate, if I do my job correctly. I have a much better feeling about the rifle, the round and the accuracy now. I have to admit, I like the rifle a lot.

Hey Gang,
Here is a couple of pics of my two Marlins, and my BIL's Glenfield that I store for him.
left is a 25N in LR. w/a 6X40 Bushnell. I bought this maybe in the '80's, gave it to a friend in '09, and then got it back again about a month ago.
center is a XT-22M in WMR with a 3X9X40 Bushnell that I've had about a year.
right is my BIL's Glenfield M60 with a 4X32 Simmons I just mounted for him. I would say it's also from the '80's; used to belong to his brother.

OK guys, so I totally hijacked the thread, may as well revive it.
So I took the original 6X40 off the 25N and replaced it with a 20 year old Sportsman's Guide job that I've had on my .308 briefly and then the WMR for a while, and so on...........
To be honest, it's never been hunted, or seen a wet jungle, but has always performed on the range when called upon. As far as backups go, it's kind of the Jason Garrett of scopes.
So my plan is to mount this, or something like it on an H001 for the sole purpose of recording various .22 ammo range reports here in the back yard where the conditions are pretty consistant.
Took these photos today. Shot some Aguila, Wincester and CCi, all subsonic. Pointed at the 25 yd range with the 50 yd range in back.
More to follow...........
BTW, the snow flakes look weird in Florida Pics.................

I'm looking forward to your ammo reports for the H001, Henry88. And, I envy your backyard range... a lot.

Love those house brand Marlins like that 30TK. I know more than a few Marlin fans that collect them. Love the look of those straight grip Marlins and I did have one in 45-70, but the recoil was too much for old rifle-recoil shy me. Tend to do better as far as handling recoil in a pistol grip stock. Very accurate, though. Love to hear about both guns in a range report.
