Winchester 1892 Deluxe Trapper Takedown

Been interested in these ever since Winchester rolled them out in last year's Shot Show - there is just something about short octagon barrels, color cased receivers, and quality walnut that is hard to resist - but they have been real hard to find - especially in 357Mag - figured I'd never see one and if I did, the asking price would be more than MSRP... Walked into the LGS the other day and was surprised to see this one in 357Mag behind the counter - they had just gotten it in the day before and better yet, they were willing to give a pretty good deal on it since I am a return (actually a lot of returns) customer. This is one of those guns that if you don't buy it when you have the chance you are going to regret it by the time you get home. Maybe that's why they call it a "Trapper" - it traps you into taking it home. So it came home with us. Here it is after a good cleaning for its initial sight-in.

First three shots from the rest were all within 1" of the bull at 25yds, so we spent the rest of the rounds plinking at steel plates for an hour or so. This short little 33" rifle is accurate and fun....

Whoa! That one would trap me, for sure. Congrats on a great find. Beautiful lever gun.

Wow a takedown. I do indeed like! Good thing it wasn't at my LGS.

Great snag, Congrats.

Just like you I started my search a bit late for the same version and almost gave up. In my case I was looking to complete my collection.

Congrats on finding one...they are beautiful. My local Browning/Winchester guy has waved one under my nose a few times now, but I just can't justify the $2000+ (Canadian) asking price. Would love to have one though...I love short rifles.

Tad strikes again. Looks good Tad and congrats. Someone around here said you cant have to many 357"s and if I would have seen one like that Im not so sure it wouldnt come home with me either.

Great find for sure, way to go. Instead of a scabbard I could carry in my saddle bag....big space saver!

I checked online at multiple locations since the beginning of this year and was never able to find one in 357 until May. The only thing I could ever find was in 45. I have no idea what it was like before that as I was focused on other models at that point.
