Brought home my newest rifle this weekend. An older mark v in .300 weatherby. Couldn’t resist the shiny wood and nice checkering. Hope I can find a good sling because this thing is heavy beyond belief. What do y’all think of it?

That wood grain and finish is gorgeous. Also like the swoosh checkering running down the grip.

Weatherbys are sharp-looking rifles, and you now have one....Congrats and Enjoy!
You are spot-on that it is dressed in beautiful wood and checkering. As usual, I always look there first.

Plenty of quality, well-made leather slings available out there. You should easily find one that will suit you and your .300. BTW, what is the "heavy-beyond belief" weight?

Thanks everyone! PT7, I’m not sure of the exact weight but it’s certainly heavier than any other rifles I’ve owned, not that it’s a bad thing, as it will probably reduce some of the recoil I’ve heard about with the weatherby magnums.
Planning on taking it out for a test run shortly, so i will update when I do. Currently, I’m going to be shooting 180gr weatherby cartridges. I don’t reload, but with the price of ammunition for these I might soon reconsider haha

beyond beautiful, congratulations indeed .... we purchased our Remington 700 BDL chambered for 300 WBY Mag in Feb of 1992 .... it is truly a phenomenal caliber .... you are right about the cost of factory ammo, we do load our own (don't recall ever running a factory round through it) .... if you plan to fire it often, loading your own is well worth considering .... talk about versatile, high quality bullets ranging from 110 gr to 220 gr are readily available .... I believe you'll be well satisfied with 180 gr .... that is what we load for ours and they are exceptional performers .... I don't want to overstate it but any stories you've heard about a 300's recoil probably don't do it justice ... in factory configuration, ours had one heck of a strong recoil .... so much so that it took several sessions to sight it in .... after a few upgrades, my wife has fired it from a sandbag rest .... as much as we like all of our other rifles, if forced to keep only one, I'd be hard pressed to not choose the 300

Thanks everyone, just went out and fire a few rounds. Shot at a 3/8” steel plate set at 100 yards, seems to be right on without any adjustments. Blew clean through the plate too! Recoil was not as bad as I was expecting, but certainly not going to be a plinking rifle
