Seeing spots

Knocked this one down tonight with the 7.62x39. I took the thermal since I thought they would show up after dark. My new Henry has stock sights that just don't work for low light conditions. I'm going to have to get a low power optic on the Henry soon. I would love to have put it to sleep with the .44.

Nice! Took about a 200 lb black bear down with a 7.62x39 some years ago. Was dead as he hit the ground!

I'm shooting the Hornady steel cased ammo with 123 grain SST bullets. Little pig was facing me at 40 yards. Bullet entered left side of head about 2" below the ear and came out the belly just in front of the ham on the same side. No visible damage to intestines. Heart cavity was full of thick blood within minutes. Dropped and flopped.
I have taken hogs of 150ish lb size with single shots to the head. I prefer a shot broadside and behind the ear. I busted the myth that a straight on skull shot would ricochet a few years back. That was with a 1 oz federal tru-ball slug out of my 870 from about 30 yards. Turned the nearly 200 lb hog 180 degrees on impact. Slug entered between eye and ear on his left side (quartering to shot) and was lodged between ribs and skin on the opposite side. That slug smashed through skull and penetrated at least 2' of hog before it stopped.

No, I never have. Lots of folks just leave the hogs for coyote and buzzard food. I dress them out like a deer and take them to a processor. Not sure if the processor does anything with the skins. I may have to ask.
