Range Report: CZ beats Henry

I'm sad to announce what I expected would happen but a CZ beat my Henry by a wide margin. Here is the CZ 452-2E American on my crude benchrest. If you look closely you can see the target at 100 yards.
This was the best of six targets. The worst was 1.097" which beat the best Henry target. I had it shooting dead center then changed ammo from Hornady to CCI.
The Henry just couldn't shoot any better. This is the best of two targets.
To be completely fair the CZ had a far better scope. One click only moved the point of impact 1/8" at 100 yards.
I shot at full 24 power and at that magnification the point of aim would move about one inch with each heartbeat. I timed my shots just after a heatbeat.

So, the good news is you can detect and count your own heartbeats, and then pull the trigger between beats. I would not be able to do that. My heart beats a bit too fast; even while I'm (bench) resting. But, my heart would soar for a target anything like your Varmint Express at a hundred yards.

interesting .... that is a Henry that I know absolutely nothing about .... have you observed the difference in grouping in the past or are today's results something new

Here is the rifle.

I think its well known a CZ would beat a Henry in group size. I'm sure I could nurse and extra inch smaller group out of the Henry but I doubt it would ever match a CZ. About six months ago I set up a contest between a Small Game Carbine and a CZ where the goal was time and not accuracy. The distance was 25 yards and the target was four inches in diameter. It didn't matter where you hit the circle you just had to hit it as fast as you could. I could work the Henry much faster and stay on target while the bolt took more time and often came off target so the time was two or three times as long.

I don't guess that there is one rifle that is best at everything .... if there was, they'd sure sell a bunch of them and not much else .... we have my grandfather's Model 94 30-30 .... he took more bear and deer with it than I'll ever see in the woods .... fired from a solid rest at 100 yards I'd be lucky to consistently hit a basketball .... guess the good thing was, he wasn't hunting basketballs ..

Hmmm.... what's the old expression again? Oh, yes: no donkey has ever won the Kentucky Derby.
