Was at the LGS last week checking out a Henry Single Shot in 44Mag and the wife saw this little old-timey looking gun on the shelf which she kind of liked - so we ended up looking it over and eventually buying it. It's a Baby Rolling Block 357Mag built by Uberti and imported by Taylor and Co. I had never seen one of these before, but apparently they were a lot of them built after the Civil War for military and civilian use around the world. They were designed by Remington and built by numerous other gun-makers in various calibers from 22LR up to 45-70. The rolling block action seems like a unique and clever way to load a single shot rifle. It's a fun little gun.

It happens often on our Forum. Never heard of a Baby Rolling Block rifle before, and I learn something new every day.
Your pics are very nice, tractortad, especially those of the receiver, hammer, etc. Colors & patterns are very cool.
Looks to be in great condition.

Do you know when it was built? It will be fun to read a Range Report on this rifle.

This is a new "replica" rifle - built by Uberti probably this year. Haven't fired it yet due to rebuilding our home-made range, but we'll shoot it some time this week - right now it's fun just to load and unload snap caps in the rolling block action...

The full size Rolling Blocks were produced in very large numbers and, as you mention, were used by military forces around the globe. The originals were big guns. I've been eyeballing one of those Baby RRs at our local shop and it really is a baby in that it's a very small, light and trim gun. The one I examined at the shop was quality fit and finish - typical Uberti - picked up from a collection. Unfortunately, it's chambered in 38-55 and I have no interest in that cartridge or I would have grabbed the gun, long ago. Would love to hear how that 357 shoots. Been very tempted to go hunting for one.

When I shot long range with the sharps there were some of the full size ones around in 45-70. Looking at yours I wonder for me about cheek weld to the stock and sight picture. Its a neat little rifle and I would also be interested in how it shoots. Cant have to many 357's. By the way Tad what did you think of the single shot Henry?

I ended up buying the 44Mag Henry Single-Shot, too - I'll put up a separate post on it.

Love to have a .22 LR version.
