My local hardware store just got a new 1873 Uberti Winchester short rifle replica. I was able to handle it and look it over in the store. What a nice rifle. 20" octagon barrel, gorgeous case colored receiver, lever and crescent butt plate. The wood was actually quite nice too, plain but a very rich brown that complimented the rifle. It was a real beauty. .357/38 caliber. 8-)

I know what you mean, RR. I saw something similar at the LGS here in the Shenandoah Valley - an 1873 Winchester Sporting rifle in 45LC with 24" octagon barrel and color-case hardened receiver. It ended up following me home and posing on the old John Deere 40....

A guy who comes to the range has two or three of the Uberti Winchester copies. I shot his .44-40 once. What an exquisite rifle it was.

Thought this must have been a typo Al, but I see they actually made a 30" octagon barrel.

doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but i really don't care for the Frontier or GB either due to the weight and it's distribution.

Are the Uberti's any good? Quality Control from rifle to rifle, how do they hold up compared to a Henry?

Ubertis are a different animal than a Henry - they are quality replicas of actual old-time rifles - i.e. the Winchester 1873. They fire, feel, and function just like the real version made back in 1873. I don't own any Uberti's at present (the rifle pictured in my previous post in this thread is an actual new Winchester 1873), but the ones I have held/examined have all been excellent quality - on par or even better than Henry.
