I have 357/38spl revolver and have wanted to buy a Henry 375 steel ever since it came out. But with my retirement income, it is way out of my price range, as is the Henry Mares leg 357. But I may be able to swing a Rossi 357 mares leg and would like any comments about those who own or have owned a Rossi mares leg. Thank you in advance. Also I have seen mares legs called rifles and pistols, which are they?

Can't help on the Rossi questions, but in the U.S., a Mare's Leg is, legally speaking, a handgun. Since this cowgirl is such a handgun nut, I'll likely own one, soon.

Well the subject of a mares leg is moot, the wife said "No, you don't need another gun!!" I just turned 80 and want to see 81, so no mares leg.

Sounds familiar.

MY wife has said "No more guns for a while" I respond with "No more shoes and purses for awhile". She looks at me like I am speaking Chinese.
In her heart she knows that if I run across a gun I really want. I will find a way to bring it home.

I hear ya, I just broke the news of the 1860 Cimarron Henry to my wife today. Of course, in hindsight, perhaps Valentines Day was not the best time to let her know I was treating myself to a new rifle this year. But I'm not known for my sound judgement most days, and I'm taking her to IHOP tomorrow for pancakes so I'm sure everything will be ok.

Wow pancakes at IHop in trade for a new gun. I need to try that. Thats a heck of deal if you ask me.

In our house, I'm the gun addict. When we go to any of our local shops, now, and buy a gun, hubby always says something to the effect of no more guns for awhile. When he does, everyone behind the gun counter breaks out in laughter. Can't imagine why.

Take a close look at the Rossi.

Before I bought my .357 Big Boy steel, I had decided I wanted a lever rifle in .357. The only thing available was the Rossi. I looked at it, and handled it. The machining on the one in the store was atrocious. I hear that they are serviceable rifles, and that with some work on the innards, they are smooth. When the LGS got a Henry .357 in stock and I got a chance to see and handle it, I quickly decided it was well worth the extra $150 - $200 over the Rossi. I made it happen by trading in an older model 10 that was sitting in the safe.

After getting the Henry, Clovispup and I both fell in love with it, and decided it was the best gun purchase I've ever made. The Ruger Mark I target pistol I bought new in 1976 runs a close second, but I still say the Henry would be the first replacement if I lost all my weapons in a tragic boating accident.

Rossi has ZERO customer service.
