My husband has been having health issues, so this summer I have been staying at home shooting mostly air guns, with some breaks to shoot rimfires using quiet ammo.

Though we already have a nice selection of fine Anschutz rimfires, I could not pass up another one when we found this one last month at or LGS, all the more so because it is so hard to find an Anschutz come up for sale in our area. This one is a classic. It's an Anschutz 1418 in 22 LR, full stock, 20" barrel, made in 1980, marked made in West Germany. Came from a collection. Not a scratch on it.


I've always had a thing for full stock rifles and as far as full stock 22 rifles, it does not get better than this Anschutz, double set trigger and all.


I wanted to scope it and just happened to have the perfect scope in a gloss Leupold 2-7x Rimfire.


So, how does it shoot? Well, it's an Anschutz and when you buy an Anschutz, accuracy is guaranteed. It's why you pay top price to get an Anschutz. This 1418 did not disappoint. In fact, it's the most accurate rifle with CCI Quiets that I've shot, yet. The Quiets have a tendency to throw flyers, but not in this Annie. Very consistent, even just shooting from the deck using the railing for a rest. Hope to get out to the range and try this 1418 with some serious target ammo, soon, but in the meantime, it's deadly on steel spinner targets in the back yard.

I wish we had a gunshop like yours in our area. Great score again on your part. It was a LONG time ago, but back in High School, shooting for a slot on the ROTC rifle team in my Freshman Year, we shot 22 single shot bolt action rifles with HIGH quality Peep sights, hooded front sights and they were very accurate. I can't remember what model or even the make of the rifles, but the top shooters could shoot out the x-rings with them.

The retired Major and Gunnery Sergeant kept them in Padded Racks in the Armory and carried them to the Indoor rifle range in the basement of the High School. I did NOT make the team that year, but DID make the silent drill platoon as a Freshman, drilling with M1 Garands with bayonets.

I have often hoped to stumble across a similar rifle, but I doubt they come up for sale often.

I think we all had the same thought abut that local gun shop of yours.

I'm trying to imagine if it's a great big place that you have to root around in to find these hidden treasures, or if it's just a small, long-time shop that everyone knows, and brings their best stuff to when the time comes, cause they know it'll end up with someone that appreciates it. My gut says it's the small shop.

I was in junior rifle club in eighth grade and we used Remington 513Ts with Redfield peep sights. Those club rifles had a gazillion rounds through them, but would still shoot perfect scores. That started my love affair with formal target shooting. Still remember my instructor and his strict way of teaching the basics, but he was so right.

Yes, it is the small shop where the folks behind the counter know everyone, especially customers like us and what we like and then are willing to give us a call or save a gun for us when something comes in. When we walk in, the guys give us a full report of what they've gotten in that we might like. We even know other customers with similar tastes and often trade stories about what we have in our collections. Of course, this kind of relationship doesn't happen overnight. We also frequent local gun shows and know all the regulars behind the tables.

I've probably mentioned it before, but I still have my first rifle that my Dad bought me as a youngster and enrolled me in NRA rifle shooting classes.
It is An Anschutz Mark 10A . Youth model with 13 " LOP. You sparked memories given the Anschutz name.
Anyway...I sure hope Hubby is ok.
