Looking for an old military rifle that someone has turned into a sportster.
Found one that looks promising it's a 1903
Remington. 30-06 . when I go back to look it over
Better , I will measure the barrel to make sure it wasn't cut down. And look down the bore.
Our deer season opens in to weeks.
If it is still looking for a new home , after our deer season. Maybe they will deal on it a little.

biglever sounds like you already have a plan for winter. Every one should have at least one winter project. I like to have a couple lined up for winter so I can go back and forth from one to the other when doing stock work. That way it allows the finish on one to dry while working on the other and I can keep my fingers off it and not get in a hurry. I have pretty fast drying time on stocks when I hang them in the furnace side of the basement where the wood/coal furnace makes it about 80* in there. Reloading ammo and getting a good supply of brass ready is also good winter time projects for me.

That's the other thing , I do get loads of brass ready .
And I was just looking at my Yugo 8MM . that I have trouble. Shooting. Think that is going to the gun Smith to get a Williams peep site and front fire site to match. Have a few jobs lined up.

Also can't wait for the gun shows to come to town
Iam working on a list of things I need.

Check that Remington 1903 out ,the barrel has been cut , and the rifleing could be a lot better

Yup, I don't want anything that had the barrel cut down.
That one is off my list.
Have to keep looking.

I just picked up a winter project myself. A sporterized 1944 German Mauser. It was a gift from an old friend. I might to a thread on this if anyone is interested in hearing about it as it progresses. It's got a lot of issues. I have addressed most of them so far.

It's an interesting story actually/ My friends dad and his buddy's bought several of these from the CMP many years ago. They were a $5 rifle back then. This one had a really tight bolt. He started sporterizing and figured he would have someone eventually fix the action. It never got finished.

He put it in a aftermarket stock and added a Redfield micrometer peep sight and removed the rear sight and sight base, his dad passed away before it was ever finished. it sat in the back of a closet for years. It's never been fired.

It's a late war Germam build Mauser. The SN# it puts it as a 1944. I've got the bolt issue(s) resolved. A Boyds stock is on order as well as a Merit Aperture. I will to a post on what I have done so far and what I plan to do with it shortly.

Spotted a VZ 24 , that"s all there, only thing it's chambered for 7mm.
I don't Have anything for 7mm.
I really would like to keep with something that I all ready load. For. Like 303 8-56r 8mm 7.7 jap 30-40 k. Etc.
It has a lot of character to the stock.
Don't no what the bore looks like.
Dont know if it's something a soldier did but,
On top of the grip they put a bunch of hash marks
Like kept track of .something.?
Mite have to Go back and look down that barrel.

Sounds like a neat rifle. When you say 7mm do you mean 7.65×53mm, or 7×57mm Mauser There is some confusion about 7mm and 8x57 is actually 7.92×57mm. I believe that rifle was made in all 3 calibers. You can load for any of those. NP. i thought about rebarreling my Mauser for 30-06 or maybe 338-06. But I bought dies and brass and am going to try the 8mm Mauser.

I have a AK-74 with some trench art and a name carved in it. Pretty cool to have a real solders personalized weapon if you ask me! If the price is right, I'd go for it!

That's why I think I would be better off keeping with one of the calibers , I all ready have.
It's not a war bring back, it has a import stamp on the. Bottom of the barrel.
I passed on one last yr. With trench art , at a gun show.
