Was looking on their site and see they charge an 11% Fed. Tax. Why is that?
Federal Import Excise Tax.
A tax if 10 percent of the sales price is imposed on pistols and revolvers, and a tax of 11 percent of the sales price is imposed on other portable weapons (e.g., rifles and shotguns) and ammunition.

Import tax?
Where are they made?
I was under the impression they were manufactured there in WY.

Their website does say for the model 89 "Built in USA". They don't say where they sourced the parts from though. I sent them a query about the tax.

Mighty fine looking lever gun, how's the recoil?
I've shot one of those Smith's, but it's been a good may years ago.
I was impressed, and amazed at how manageable it was.
Oh, I like the avatar. ;)

RP
Recoil is similar to a Henry 45/70.

Pocket change for some people. They are beautiful rifles but at the price I see those sell for I believe I would need to take a pass.
It took me some time to save for it but it is well worth the price.

Handloader, that is a pretty neat rifle. While I have examined the .500 and .460 revolvers from S&W, it never occurred to me that someone might make a rifle for those cartridges.
Do you hunt with it? How did it do if you got something?
I hunt various large game so far one and done have not had to chase any. It is harder hitting than my Henry 45/70 as the bullet has a larger mass.

Good Morning,

Thanks so much for reaching out to Big Horn Armory. While the Federal Excise tax can include good such as imports, the Federal Gov (and some states) collects excise taxes on a bevy of goods and services to include the sale of firearms. Other examples could include alcohol, Tobacco, fuel (so called "Sin" taxes) Some companies simply don't advertise this and is built into the final price.

As a consumer who has seen plenty of companies claiming the Made in the USA label, I appreciate your due diligence on the matter and I can assure you our rifles are proudly made right here in Cody, Wyoming USA.

Thanks so much reaching out to us and we hope you have a great 2024.

Thank You,

Andy Junker

Well I never knew about the hidden tax on guns. Thanks Mags for finding that out!
