One less deer rifle
I have one less deer rifle here now after selling my Marlin 336 SC (Sporting Carbine) 35 Remington to a local Dealer who collects Marlins. It was made in 1960 and was in mint condition and the shop owner couldn't lay it down after he got it in his hands. Was a very easy sale with no low balling offers as he wasn't going to leave this one get by him. I am happy someone has it now to add to his collection. He also wants my Marlin 336 Zane Grey octagon barrel 30-30 but I will hold on to this one for a while longer. Now I will try to move the 35 Rem. once fired brass since I won't buy any more deer/bear rifles. I will probably miss seeing it in my safe but will be OK with it being gone after I buy something to take its place. Will be a rim fire or a rifle shooting a .224 diameter bullet.

I have a Zane Grey rifle as well. Any idea as to the value?

Bandit, the brass will be an easy sell.
List it on MO, it won't last long.
I'd buy it, but luckily I'm pretty stocked up on it.
I have 1960 made for Sears Marlin, a sweet shooter.

I don't know about now, but for a long time the ZG's didn't really fetch much more than the standard 336's.
I always like them, but then I've always admired the octagon barrels and lever guns.

Not surprised you sold the 336 SC. Those SCs are highly sought after in Marlin circles. What are you looking to get in a .224 center fire?

Re: One less deer rifle
Vaquero, With Marlin prices at an all time high they are bringing very good money right now. I have two standing offers for my Zane Grey of $1000 and $1200 but I have not decided to let it go as I am down to only one Marlin center fire lever gun and I have a lot of reloading components for 30-30. $1200 for my Zane Grey would include a gloss finish 1-4 Leupold scope already mounted ready to hunt with. My ZG seems to have a few people interested in buying it because it has a very low serial number being 1X. I don't know why that matters in making it worth any more than any other ZG. A friend of mine sold one a couple years ago NIB with all the paper work and got $1400 for it. I know of one other NIB Zane Grey that brought enough money for the guy that sold it he couldn't quit smiling the rest of the day at the gun show. Right now is some crazy times for gun prices (and cars) and could some day come back down but I tend to believe as long as people will pay the money the sellers are asking it will remain in the sellers favor. When I decide to sell mine If I can't get at least the price I have been offered I still have it to use. I am getting closer all the time to selling my guns down to just what my wife and I shoot. That would be keeping quite our old classic Remington 22's and our CZ 452's in 22 LR. Shot guns that will never leave while I am still here are our older Remington 870's.

I'd be interested in some of that brass. PM me if you still want to get rid of some.bandit1250 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 6:43 pmI have one less deer rifle here now after selling my Marlin 336 SC (Sporting Carbine) 35 Remington to a local Dealer who collects Marlins. Re: One less deer rifle
One I would always keep is my Remington 700 Classic in 250 Savage. Been a great deer killer in the 25 years or more I have used it. I have a Remington 700 V 223 and a Tikka Continental Varmint 223 that probably will be kept for some years that are fine deer killers with 60 grain Hornady spire point bullets. (Lead tip bullets only for me hunting deer.) Can't see the 223 rifles getting sold. If I did sell a 223 rifle it would be the Tikka. I like my 700 Rem. better that I have converted to a single shot and made my own stock about 35 years ago. Take care and have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Re: One less deer rifle
well understood, I feel the same way about my Remington 700 BDL chambered in 300 Wby Mag .... I bought it back when I was hunting down east over fields that were literally a square mile or better .... I've spent more on taming its recoil than I did on the rifle ....bandit1250 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 9:24 pmOne I would always keep is my Remington 700 Classic in 250 Savage.
