Ruger 10/22 Lite Varmint Target

Post by Hatchdog » Wed Jul 27, 2022 10:35 am

So a guy from Pierce Idaho (too far away for me) posted on our local guntrader site this Ruger 10/22. It has a 20” barrel that tapers from the normal bull barrel diameter to .790 at the muzzle which is threaded. It also comes standard with the improved Ruger BX trigger and a checkered hardwood walnut stained stock with a rubber buttplate. The Idaho guy wanted $375 plus $40 shipping to Spokane. Then $58 in transfer fees and finally 8.1% sales tax. So while intrigued with this rifle the cost of getting it was too high.

Just for the heck of it I stopped into the LGS in Deer Park and bingo, there it was. $350 plus tax and $18 in fees. So I put it on layaway for another day.

Not sure on this rifle but I believe it first was released as a Talo exclusive around 2012???. And it appears it has been re-released in 2022, again as a Talo exclusive. If anybody knows more about it please share.

Here’s a pic of the one in Idaho from the website.

No experience with that version, but, hey, it's a 10/22. You'll need to get out and shoot it before you know what it will do. And, by the way, I have had some great shooting 10/22s right out of the box.

Yep, it's a 10-22. For what it is worth, Ruger's builds are often more capable than the shooters. I still shoot my early 60's international (offhand) as well as any other 22 I own. Sure I can tell the difference when I bag it compared to other guns. But in the hand standing. The 10-22 is hard to beat.

A number of years ago, I picked up 4 of brownels br22 receivers. I build one up for each of my kids, myself, and I am sitting on the 4th. My build is lilja barrel, kid bolt, trigger, bedded into a nice stock.

I'm thinking of a simple Houge overmold. Kid bolt, and trigger combo with a integrally suppressed barrel at about 10 inches. Yeah, I'd have to double stamp it, but dang, I think that would be a hoot.

At one time I owned more 10/22’s than Henrys. It’s amazing how many different configurations you can make to them.

The fact this rifle comes with the BX trigger and the semi-bull barrel pushed me into buying it. One report I read said that this person’s rifle shot .25 inch at 50 yards. That’s pretty incredible for a 10/22. We’ll see about mine of course. I had a stainless carbine 10/22 that I sold yesterday but the poor guy (a local gun dealer) is sick so we won’t meet until next week. Covid is running rampant around here again so I’m happy to wait. Today I’ll go up to my LGS and complete the lay away and start my 10 day waiting period to purchase this assault 22 semi auto evil rifle.

Found a scope, a guy on our local trader page put a Vortex Crossfire 2-7X rimfire up for sale for $75. I would have preferred a Diamondback or Leopold but I couldn’t pass on that deal. Got it mounted and now this 10/22 can join the pile of guns I need to sight in.

Looking much better now that it’s not naked of sights/optics. :D
