Id been looking for a while for a 22 mag and I finally just went ahead and bought a Ruger American 22 WMR. One thing I liked about the Ruger over some of the other choices is there rotary magazine it is about bullet proof for functioning. Some of the Savage rifles I look at have terrible magazines and they have issues with them. There rifles shoot great but I think I have a pretty good shooting 22 mag here. I got it sighted in with a new Burris 4.5 x 14 x 42 scope. The scope was on sale at Cabelas for 111.00. I thought that was a great deal. Its a very clear scope and has an A/O. I have 2 kinds of ammo so far Hornady Vmax 30 gr and Remington Premier 33gr. The Remington is 2000fps and the Hornady is a little more. The gun really likes the Remington and I will be buying more of it. Picture posted is at 50 yards off the bench and its 5 shots. I have never shot a group this good with any 22 let alone a mag. It opened up slightly at 100 yards but its definitely a keeper.

Nice shooting,
My old savage combination 22WMR/20ga likes the Rem load as well and will shoot around 1/2" at 50.
The 22mag does have a bit of a reputation for being inaccurate but it hasnt been my experience.
I also have a sako quad rimfire with 17M2 17HMR 22lr and 22WMR barrels, there is nothing between them when it comes to accuracy with loads they like. All 4 barrels will shoot under 1" at 100y with preferred ammo.
Dont know if you can find it in the USA, it has been unobtainable here in Aus for the past few years but the S&B 22mag ammo is remarkably consistent and accurate. The 40gr HP is also a bit harder than most 22mag ammo and the choice for anything larger than the normal small game.

Great shooting. I’ve always liked American style rifles.

Hey Al, I used to own that exact rifle. Mine had a Nikon 3-9x40 rimfire scope on it. I tried several different types/brands of ammo and it liked the Winchester Super X 40 grain HP. That was a very accurate rifle and that ammo would turn a ground squirrel inside out. (Slight exaggeration but you get the point) Never lost a wounded one down the hole like an LR did occasionally. P

I am on the fence about buying a Ruger 10/22. I've found them in walnut for $319 but they have a combo with a Viridian Eon Scope and a hard case for $369. Just can't make up my mind. Or another Henry so I don't shoot the Golden Boy to death.

I cant help you with your decision. Two different guns. One lever and one semi auto. I have both. But my Ruger 10/22 wears a hammer forged barrel and a laminated stock. It is a little more money that a Henry. I like the bull barrel and the laminated stock of the 10/22. The standard 10/22 doesnt interest me to much.

Heck of a deal on that Burris scope. Especially considering the adjustable objective.
