Anyone have any thoughts on this 22 mag. It looks like a real nice rifle to me.

Al, it looks like a tube fed version of the 25MN, which has a 7 rd.mag.
I have one very accurate little rifle, I also have a 25N a 22lr.

The stock on that one looks nicer though. 👍
Made at the same time period, the 883 came out in '88.

Like I said much nicer lumber on that one than either of mine.
Both of mine are shooters, Tom has the 22 version like mine also.

Yep, those Marlin 25N's are good shooters. That 883 looks good, first one I 've seen I believe. You thinking on it Al?

Those 78x/88x series Marlin bolt guns had walnut stocks and that particular one looks very nice. Marlin stocks with walnut have the traditional Marlin bullseye on the bottom of the stock behind the pistol group. Only walnut stocks got that bullseye.

I had a 781 22LR for sometime that made a very nice squirrel rifle, even though the trigger was just okay. Just don't expect a CZ bolt gun trigger and you'll do fine. Marlin bolt guns do fine in the accuracy department.

The 25N started life as the Glenfield 25N and all Glenfield's had "hardwood" sticks, typically birch, though I have heard of beech on the more current guns. When Marlin dropped the Glenfield line, they continued with the hardwood stocks for the 25 series, as well as other models that had "hardwood" stocks as standard, such as the Model 60 auto.

An old coot I knew when I was growing up and starting to shoot was a local legend for being the best squirrel hunter in the area. He bought a single shot Marlin 22 LR bolt gun when he returned home from the war and that's all he ever used for squirrel hunting his entire life, original open sights and all. He never saw a reason to go with the fancy stuff. He was impressed, though, that I was out in the woods hunting squirrels with a bow. :)

Ive looked at Brownings T-Bolt lots of negativity with the trigger and magazine. Ive looked at CZ not many available and those that are the price is way out there. Ive looked at Ruger Americans and Ruger 77/22 the older ones. Prices for those is crazy. Rugers either seem to shoot very good or have bolt issues. Ive looked at Savage also. I like the Savage BRJ and still may get one. Right now Im just checking it all out to see what comes. But that Marlin looks real good and if it shoots as good as the Model 60 I have it would be fine for me.

No problem at all shooting like a 60, Al. If you like your 60, you'll do fine with the 883.

As for CZ availability, CZs typically go in and out of stock on a seasonal basis, since CZ America usually gets a shipment of CZs from the CZ in the Czech Republic twice a year. The older 452s and 453s now go for a premium, but you should be able to get one of the current 457s if you wait a bit.

Al, you can go to "Range Reports", p. 27 about half way down and see what my 25N shoots like at 50 yards. Not that I'm trying to enable here, but.....
