I bought a Savage Axis 223 from a friend that never fired it. I painted it camo for him and he never went hunting after he got it back. I gave him $250 for it with a Simmons 4-12 oz scope on it that I did end up removing the scope and put a VX-II 3-9x40 Leupold. Gave the Simmons back to him. I worked on the trigger and got it down to a crisp pull that is 2 lb 11-2lb 14 oz. Made a trigger stop adjustment for it out of a screw that also holds the trigger spring I made in place. Actually feels OK for a hunting trigger. Will get sighted in for deer season with a full load of H-4895 and a 60 grain lead tipped Hornady spire point that has been a proven one shot deer killer for me. This rifle has a 1-9 twist. BigAl may post pictures later my wife sent.

I picked up one of those last year.
Like you I worked on the trigger and got it around 2-3 lb pull. Don't remember the load right off, but inside a quarter at a 100 yds. with a 62 gr pill.
