Wild bidding going on

Post by bandit1250 » Mon Apr 05, 2021 9:38 am

Was on Gun Broker last evening and saw a Remington Nylon 10 up for bid. It was the 24" barrel smooth bore which is the rarest model in the nylon 10 rifles. There was higher numbers in the 19 1/2" model. The 24" was only 200 made out of App. 2,000 combined. I looked at the bidding and at that time there was 47 bids. Are you ready? The bid was at $10,525 and had over an hour left. I didn't stay on to see what it went for so I looked this morning at the end of the sale. Ended at $12,000. The Nylon 10 was a single shot that later was the barreled action that made up the platform for the 510X models that had walnut stocks instead of plastic. The Nylon had a butter knife bolt handle and the 510X did not. All 510X rifles and 511X and 512X were grooved from the factory for scopes. The Nylon 10, 11, and 12 were started in the early '60's and I saw a few at shows with out grooves and ones that were. The Nylon 11 and 12 were the platform for the mag fed 511X and the 12 was the barreled action that made up the 512X. I doubt that a new Nylon 10 cost more than $50 new in '62-'64. The Nylons in the bolt actions never had the following that the other Nylons did and were done in about three years production. One thing I really like is the Nylon bolts were a great platform made into a super model for the cost in the X series rifles. My X models would be my last Remington's to be sold. I have been fortunate to find the seven X models in great condition I have in my collection of Remington 22's. Take care and get out to shoot in the nice weather.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

That's a strange .22 setup with 24 inch barrel and no rifling. How accurate were they? Wasn't the nylon stock deal being pushed with DuPont's help
since they were big makers of nylon back then? My Dad worked at the Richmond plant back then and he probably could have gotten a good deal on one. They were always having Safety Prizes available!
That is some crazy money being spent!

I've actually shot one of the Model 10s, the version with rifling, of course. A friend of ours had one. He also had a Nylon 66, which was a fun gun for shooting cans, down in then pasture.

Remington was very innovative, back in the 60s, really years ahead of their time. A lot of younger shooters have no idea how Remington dominated the gun world in the 60s. They were the top dog in those days and remained so for decades. Definitely not the same company you see, now.

forty, They were made for shooting bird shot. Better patterns with bird shot when there was no rifling to deform the shot. They actually shoot close range matches around here with smooth bore 22's like shot gun matches only really close range. Maybe 10 yds but I don't go so I could be wrong.
