Re: Rossi has something new.
My guess about the eventual disappearance of the 444 was the growth in popularity of the 45-70, which was added to the Marlin line shortly after the 444. For sure, the 45-70 is a great cartridge, I love it, but so is the 444. What I appreciated about the 444, compared to the 45-70, was how much flatter the 444 shoots past 100 yards. I also think the 444 is a tad easier on the shoulder to shoot. Oh, it's no pussycat, but I'd rather shoot the 444 with standard loads than some of the current 300 to 350 grain 45-70 factory hunting loads.

I have the new Rossi Trapper in 45-70 from which I made the Mules Leg and the quality is very good. The action is very smooth and no issues so far. Only thing it needs is a Hi Viz green front bead sight in place of the dark metal bead.

Re: Rossi has something new.
I just found out some new info on the r95's.
I don't know if any of y'all are familiar with 1895gunner, but he does reviews on a lot of new firearms.
Here lately he's done a couple on some of the new Marlins and I know he's done one on the New r95's.
Here's a statement from him on Rossi.
I have found that the person in charge of the Rossi website is bad about copying their specs from one rifle to another. Their 45-70's are 1:20 and their 30-30's are 1:16. If you click on every R95 rifle on their website you'll see what I mean. Problem is, stores just repeat the same mistake on their websites. I'll ask Rossi however I expect the .444 will be closer to the 1:20.
I have a media T&E .444 coming to me very soon. I'll know for sure then.

Re: Rossi has something new.
The Rossi specs that I read say that the stocks are "wood" not walnut like H.R.A. Also Rossi uses a crossbolt "safety" not a transfer bar. Wrong answer.

Re: Rossi has something new.
Yes. it has the CBS like Marlin, I've wondered why Ruger didn't go with the transfer bar also.
As they use it in their single action pistols.
Maybe just trying to keep it as much like the older JM Marlins as possible.
I've read they did change some on the interior workings.

Randy, I think that Ruger had a great chance to do away with the crossbolt and use a transfer bar on the rifles but they chose the easy way out. As an aside the transfer bar is nothing new, I have an Iver Johnson top break 32 that was made in the late thirties and it has a transfer bar so it can "load six".

I also ditched the crossbolt safety and made up another pin for use as the saddle ring. It is locked in place with the factory set screw and not used as a safety.

I'll just have to buy one of the after market ones.
