Anyone know much about remington m24s

Post by DsGrouse » Sun Feb 22, 2026 9:46 am

The gun isn't in my hands yet. It's circa 1989, Remington M24.

Looks to be a long-action, Parkerized barrel, factory rings, and box papers.

I can say that a few friends from the range would build up their own versions of these rifles. The more original parts, the better, and things like the bottom metal, rings, things like that still go for a lot of $$$ if they have the provenance.
They're heavy from what I remember, and the one I held got us all talking about having to carry that around all the time.

That's a really nice rifle, and I hope it does everything you want it to.

From what I understand, it is a contract overrun by Remington from the M24 original production. These were sold to police and sheriff's departments, as well as SWAT teams. It was purchased from the same ffl i am getting it from. The owner never quite got around to fully setting it up.

My nephew's dad carried the M24 while in the regiment and during his time in LERS. We are both pretty excited to see it.

I've only gotten a couple of photos. We'll see.
I'm curious as to what this is. Regardless, it's a good-looking rifle.

I'll likely know more in a few weeks.

I'm sure you're paying a pretty penny for it, and the scope, if you stay true to the M24 platform, is going to be another big bill.
That said, and whatever optic you pick, you'll have a piece of history that will still be able to run with the big dogs.

Looking forward to some picks when you get it and when you start shooting with it.

So these shipped with rings, and sling iirc. As to the scope. My inlaw said his was a fixed 10x.

Hope it turns out to be a sub-moa shooter for you! Looks like the same H-S Precision stock that is on my Rem 700 Varmint express. That 700 started out life as a stainless fluted .22/250 but it's a Hart barreled .22 BR now.

Should be a winner, great platform.

I used to have a REM 700 with the 20” bull barrel chambered in .308. I used it on a medium range fun competitive course shooting life sized steel animal targets at varying distances. Longest shot was a coyote at 500 yards with most targets being smaller critters from 200 - 400 yards. That 700 did great. Only mod I did to it was to add bottom metal with detachable mags.

Good luck with the set up and enjoy dialing it in.

That looks like a REM mdl 7 or 700............The Rem mdl 24 was a licensed copy of Browning's .22 semi auto..............
