Here's a pretty interesting video that popped up on my feed today. It's a quick overview of how Anschutz does their biathlon rifles, including some testing. I also thought that they showed some pretty neat clips of the assemblers and others that put the rifles together, along with some of the tools they use.

I enjoyed that video. Got caught in the youtube loop that took me to a side by side comparison of the German, Russian, and American offerings. They cost $5,000, $3,500, and $1,200 set up to compete. In this case, the performance shows you do get what you pay for.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Anschutz Biathlon Rifles
I went to a Rimfire Silhouette match about 25 years ago, just looking to try that out and see what it's all about. Turns out the only two people that showed, were me and a guy from Great Britain, so they didn't have the match. But they put out some rams for us to shoot, for taking the ride. The other guy had a biathlon rifle, which I had never seen in-person before. His was an Anschutz, but he had a scope on it, not the irons they normally have. I was surprised at how heavy it was. My service rifle is about 12 pounds, and this rifle was at least that heavy. I don't know if they're all that heavy, I'd think not, but who knows. That toggle action is pretty neat too, the way the lugs pop out and lock the action with a gentle push on the toggle arm feels like precision, it was very very smooth.
Something that I misunderstood until watching that video, was that the little flip cover on the muzzle is not there to cover the muzzle, it's to cover the front sight. DUH! That makes way more sense. I also wasn't aware that they had covers on the rear aperture as well, which also makes sense for a sport contested outdoors in the winter. Live and learn.

What a fabulous rifle maker. Thanks for posting the video here. I'd likely never have seen it otherwise. Awesome process.rickhem wrote: ↑Thu Feb 19, 2026 9:19 amHere's a pretty interesting video... a quick overview of how Anschutz does their biathlon rifles, including some testing.
